Chapter 99 Sponsor?
Thinking back on his college days, Justin smiled bitterly, “All my living expenses came from part–time jobs, and I also got a scholarship. But even with that, the money I made still wasn’t enough.
“Then, the school told me that a wealthy person wanted to sponsor a student. The school knew about my situation, so they chose me.”
Amy’s unease grew as she listened. “Sponsor? Did you ever ask who it was? Have you met that person?”
Justin shook his head. “After graduation, I tried to get in touch with the school to find out, but the person didn’t want to reveal their identity.”
Amy shook her head in disbelief. “That’s so strange. Could it really be that coincidental?”
Justin noticed her reaction and asked, “What’s going on? What do you mean?”
Amy quickly snapped out of it, shaking her head. “No, nothing.” She changed the subject, asking, “Is your mom still in the nursing home?”
Justin nodded. “Yeah, now that I’ve got a steady job and things are a bit better, I don’t spend much, so I’ve been saving up and

moved her to a nursing home in the city. I visit when I can.”
Amy felt a pang of guilt. If Justin hadn’t said anything, she would never have guessed he’d been through all that. “Why didn’t you tell us sooner? Don’t you think of us as friends?”
Seeing Amy’s displeasure, Justin quickly waved his hand in explanation. “I didn’t mean to hide it. It’s just not the kind of thing I like talking about. You never asked about my family, so I didn’t bring it up.”
That made sense. Amy sighed and said, “Alright, since we’re friends now, I can’t just ignore it if you need help. And about the furniture thing earlier–don’t take it seriously. I was just messing around.”
Justin smiled and shook his head, “I know you’re just trying to help, but I’ve got my job, and I’m doing better now. I’m definitely going to pay you back for the damage.”
Amy, though wanting to help, crossed her arms with a proud look. “I said there’s no need to pay it back, so there’s no need to pay it back.”
Justin’s smile faltered a little. “Amy, I get that you’re being kind, but I don’t like it when you do that. It makes me feel like you’re pitying me. We’re friends, right? I know that money might not mean much to you, but for me, since I’m the one who caused the damage, it’s only right that I pay you back.”
Amy’s face twisted slightly, and she hesitated. “I’m not trying to pity you. I just…” She stopped, realizing she couldn’t quite

With a sigh, she relented. “Alright, you can pay me back if your want. But if you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to come to me.”
Justin nodded, his smile finally softening. He settled back down by the door. Amy leaned against the wall, her eyes casually flicking over to Justin, her thoughts swirling in a way she couldn’t quite explain.
She remembered when she was in college a few years ago. Her father had given her some money, a reward for getting into university. At the time, she hadn’t wanted to spend it carelessly, so she used part of it to start a bar, and the rest to help a struggling police academy student.
It even earned her a certificate of appreciation, and her father praised her for it, so much so that he gave Amy more money out of his joy. But at that moment, it didn’t mean much to her.
Looking back now, Amy vaguely remembered the police academy student had wanted to meet her to thank her in person. But she hadn’t thought it was necessary–she didn’t want to make him feel too indebted.
The last thing she wanted was to see him overwhelmed with gratitude. So, she had decided to let it go.
But now, the coincidence was almost too strange to ignore. Amy thought, “Is it possible that Justin has the same story? Could the world really be that small? Is he the very police academy student

The more she thought about it, the stranger it felt. She let out a sigh, trying to shake off the thought, and grabbed two bottles. of wine from the cellar, forcing herself to stop dwelling on it. Carrying the bottles, she walked over to Justin. “Here, one for each of us.”
Justin looked at the bottle in his hand, then hesitated. “Isn’t it a bit strange to drink here?”
Amy pushed it into his hand. “What’s so strange about it? Don’t be clueless. This wine’s from abroad, and each bottle’s worth at couple of thousand dollars.” She popped open one of the bottles. and took a long swig.
Justin set his bottle aside. “This wine’s too good to waste on someone who doesn’t know how to appreciate it. Plus, I’ve got work tomorrow, and cops can’t drink before a shift.” Amy felt a little disappointed.
Meanwhile, the game had wrapped up, and everyone was a bit tipsy. Since they all had work the next day, no one stayed out too late. By around 11 PM, people were starting to leave.
Felix, not wanting anyone to get the wrong idea, waited until everyone had cleared out before he and Abigail left the bar. Abigail was still somewhat aware, but her legs were giving out.
They finally made it downstairs, and Felix helped her into the elevator. “Mr. Rowe, thank you for taking me home,” she murmured, clearly a little drunk.

Felix, seeing her dazed expression, knew she had had a bit too much to drink. With a sigh, he let Abigail try to open the door, but she struggled with the keys. She fumbled with them for a while before Felix finally took them from her and opened the door himself.
He helped her to the couch and sat her down. They both sat on opposite ends, Abigail breathing heavily, a slight sheen of sweat on her forehead from the alcohol.
Felix watched her for a moment, and then he had a teasing grin. “Abigail, I take it you could use some money right now?”
Abigail nodded, a little shaky. “Definitely. The divorce settlement went to save my family’s business. Now I’ve got to work to support myself.”
Felix’s grin deepened. “Well, about the offer I made earlier… Have you thought it over?”
Abigail blinked, clearly a little foggy from the drinks. She had completely forgotten what he had said.
Felix’s grin widened. “If you find someone to date at work, there’s a bonus involved. Ever thought about finding someone there?”
Abigail grinned back, a playful glint in her eye. “Of course. Who wouldn’t want the bonus, no matter where the relationship
starts?”

Felix’s smile turned almost smug as he glanced away, pretending to be indifferent. “So, have you got someone in mind?”
