Chapter 103 The Unwelcome Guest
Seeing that she really wasn’t going to speak anymore, Felix just swallowed his frustration, stirring his straw in the coffee cup, unable to take a single sip.
The coffee remained untouched, no matter how hard he tried.
By the time they finished lunch, Abigail still hadn’t dared say a word.
Once they were back in the car, Felix started driving toward their client’s place.
The client’s name was Vivian Clarke, and her daughter was Vanessa Clarke.
The two of them had been sent away to the countryside in another city by the husband, but after a property dispute, they had returned.
Unfortunately, money was tight, so they had only been able to rent a dilapidated little house in the suburbs.
Abigail was feeling drowsy on the way there, her eyelids heavy with sleep.
Just as she was about to doze off, the car jerked suddenly, snapping her out of her stupor.

After a while, Felix pulled over by the side of the road.
“Gel oul.”

Abigail blinked in confusion. “Mr. Rowe, we’re still far from the destination, aren’t we?”
Felix shot her a quick glance. “Get out. You drive.”
“What? Why?” It was usually him driving.
And besides, she didn’t even know the address.
Felix didn’t answer. He opened the passenger door and yanked
her out.
“No more questions. I’m the boss. I’m not going to play driver for
you every day.”
Hearing this, Abigail had to admit he had a point.
She slid into the driver’s seat, pulling up the navigation on her
phone.
Felix didn’t speak the entire drive, leaning against the window with his eyes half–closed.
Abigail stole glances at him, perplexed.
What was he getting so worked up about?
Another twenty minutes passed, and the navigation finally

Chapter 103 The Unwelcome Guest showed they’d arrived.
Abigail was stunned when she saw the place.
For someone who was the wife and child of a company executive, they were living in a shabby little house.
The place was surrounded by overgrown weeds, giving it a creepy, cerie vibe.
Felix got out of the car, and Abigail followed behind.
As she raised her hand to knock, the door swung open by itself. Standing in the doorway was Vanessa, who greeted them with a bright, cheerful smile.
“You’re here!”
Felix nodded, and Abigail gave Vanessa a small, polite smile.
The girl was quite pretty, with big, bright eyes and nice skin.
She led them inside, and Abigail’s eyes widened in shock as soon as she stepped in.
The house was dim and rundown, and the air was thick with the smell of medicine.
In the bedroom lay Vivian, who appeared much older than her forty–something years, with gray hair and deep wrinkles.
Her face was pale, and she looked terribly weak.

When she saw them, she tried to sit up to greet them, but ast soon as she moved, she was seized by a violent coughing fit.
Vanessa rushed over. “Mom, stay put! They won’t mind.”
Felix and Abigail took a seat on the nearby sofa.
“We already know your situation. Vanessa mentioned

everything to us the other day. Did she pass along what I asked her to?”
Vivian nodded, propping herself up against the headboard.
“I know. The chances of recovering the inheritance are slim, but we have to try. Even if there’s the tiniest chance.”
Vivian reached over and gently stroked Vanessa’s hair, her eyes glistening with tears but also filled with love.
“I’m getting old, and whether we succeed or not doesn’t matter to me. But Vanessa’s still young. My health is so bad. I could be gone any day now. If that happens, she’ll be left with nothing.”
Seeing the two of them like this, Abigail felt a lump in her throat.
Felix spoke up again, “Let’s go over your situation first.”
“You two are still legally married, so if he didn’t leave a will, the inheritance would go to you and your child according to the law. But the problem now is that he did leave a will.”

Typically, if a will existed, the court would follow its terms.

However, given that there was an illegitimate child with a blood. connection, this situation was really difficult to navigale.
Vivian nodded. “All these years, he’s kept me out of the business and hidden the financial details from me. But I suspect he’s been secretly moving assets around. Even if he’s still alive, if we divorce one day, I’ll probably get nothing.”
Her voice grew bitter as her hands clenched into fists.
Abigail pursed her lips. “You know he’s been moving assets?”
Vivian nodded. “There’s no such thing as a perfect secret. He’s bought up a lot of properties overseas, and the agent is a former classmate of mine. He actually asked me once if I knew about it. That’s when I realized what he was up to, but I was too weak to do anything about it.”
Abigail turned to Felix. “If we can get evidence of his asset transfers, we might have a chance in court.”
Felix nodded. “Exactly.”
Before they could continue, the door was suddenly kicked open from the outside with a loud bang.
Everyone jumped, and they turned toward the door. Felix instinctively moved to shield Abigail behind him.
A group of burly men walked in, holding baseball bats.

Behind them was a woman, dressed in black, with long hair down to her waist. Her skin and striking beauty made her stand

She stepped into the center of the room, and her red nails. accentuated her fingers.
She took off her sunglasses, revealing captivating eyes.
Vivian and Vanessa immediately recognized her, their faces contorting with anger.
Vanessa stepped in front of Vivian protectively.
“Jasmine Hayes! What are you doing here? You’re not welcome in my home!”
Abigail and Felix quickly put two and two together. It seemed this woman was the affair partner.
Vivian spat, “Get out of here! Don’t bring your filth near my door!”
Jasmine chuckled coldly, her gaze sweeping the room.
“Home? You really have the nerve to call this dump a home? I wouldn’t even let my dog live here. It’s more like a kennel for stray dogs.”
Vivian, already fragile, began coughing violently again. Vanessa rushed to her side, patting her back and glaring at Jasmine.

Jasmine sneered, unconcerned. She looked around again, and then her gaze landed on Felix and Abigail.
Felix shifted his position, placing himself between her and Abigail. He stared coolly at the woman.
“So, you’re the two lawyers they hired?”
Jasmine took a step forward, eyeing Felix up and down.
“Not bad–looking, but I’m afraid your brain isn’t working too well. You do understand that you don’t have a chance of winning this case, right?”
Felix raised an eyebrow, a cold smile playing on his lips. “Is that so?”
“Think carefully. You have no shot. If you lose, these two won’t even be able to pay you. Instead of wasting time here, I suggest you cut your losses now.”
Felix chuckled lightly. “Since when did being a mistress make someone so morally superior? You’re worried about other people’s business now?”
Jasmine’s smile faltered, and the mockery in her eyes faded.
