Chapter 130 She Jumped
But lately, these cases had added up, and Abigail had come to realize one thing.
She let out a cold laugh. “It’s not that only the strong get help from lawyers. It’s that in this indifferent society, so many victims never get a fair trial. That’s why they need us.”
Xander didn’t say anything more, but the discomfort was written all over his face.
Felix, silent as ever, only smiled wider, the amusement in his eyes deepening.
Amy watched Abigail snap at Xander and felt a secret thrill.
She kept squeezing Justin’s hand under the table, her own little gesture of support.
The atmosphere was thick with awkward silence for a few
moments.
Until the boss finally brought out the freshly baked food.
Xander grabbed a chicken wing and placed it on Abigail’s plate. “Forget about all that. Just eat. I remember you used to love these when you were in school.”
Abigail didn’t say a word. Felix picked up an insanely spicy chicken wing and put it on her plate, then grabbed the wing she’d been given and bit into it himself.

she’s all about the crazy spicy ones.”
Xander chuckled, not saying anything else as he dug into his own food.
Abigail was a little surprised he even remembered that detail.
But then she glanced over at Amy, who was sitting nearby. It wouldn’t be too surprising if it had been Amy who told Felix about it.
After a long pause, Xander finally spoke up again.

“Abigail, the real reason I asked you out today was to extend an
invitation.”
He pulled a business card from his pocket and slid it across the table toward her.
Felix glanced at it, clearly seeing the address of a law firm printed on the card.
Abigail took the card, and Xander continued, “I’ve started my own law firm, and I’d like to invite you to come work with me.”
Felix felt a little insulted.
“Really? Trying to poach someone right in front of me? This guy was definitely a bit too full of himself.”
Amy and Justin were both holding their breath, watching Felix closely, waiting for his reaction.
But before Felix could say anything, Xander turned to him.

“Felix, I’m not trying to steal your employee. You’re such a big–hearted guy. I’m sure you won’t mind, right?”

It was pretty clear he was trying to butter Felix up. What he thought was a charming move was really just a blatant attempt to undermine him.
Felix had expected him to be just another pretty boy, but he was really just a smooth talker.
At a moment like this, the first person to lose their cool would be the one to lose the battle. It was all about maintaining the right. balance of confidence and composure.
Felix set his chicken wing down, took a sip of water, and smiled before looking at Abigail.
“I don’t mind at all. I respect whatever choice Abigail makes.”
Abigail stared at the business card for a moment before glancing over at Felix.
In the end, she placed the card on the table.
“I’m really happy with my current job, and I appreciate your trust, Xander. But I don’t think your firm would be the right fit
for me.”
Compared to his way of taking cases for money and personal gain, Abigail preferred the way Felix worked–fighting for justice. and standing up for the vulnerable.
But Xander wasn’t ready to give up.

more insistent. “I’ll double your current salary. Don’t you want to think about it?”
Honestly, Felix felt a brief flicker of panic when Xander dangled money in front of Abigail.
He knew how much she valued earning, and that was a temptation he couldn’t ignore.
But the next moment, his unease vanished.
Abigail looked directly at Xander.
“Xander, I really appreciate your trust, but I’m not going to reconsider. I agreed to join you for this meal because of the old friendship we had, but honestly, we’ve grown apart. We’re not on the same path anymore. That said, if the opportunity comes up, I’d still like to face you across from each other in the courtroom.”
Her words couldn’t have been clearer.
The smile on Xander’s face faltered.
Felix continued eating his chicken wings, savoring every bite.
Amy and Justin both exhaled in relief.
Xander understood what Abigail was saying. He didn’t press any further, just stood up.
“Alright then, I won’t push it. If our views are really that different, I won’t force it. I’d rather not face you in court, but I do hope we can still be friends.”

With that, he stood and went to settle the bill with the boss.

Felix and the others remained in their seats, calmly waiting for Xander to pay without hesitation.
After Xander paid the bill, he walked back over to grab his coat.
As he looked at everyone, he pulled on a polite, almost too perfect smile.
“It was great seeing you all again. Hopefully, we’ll have a chance to meet up again sometime. Goodbye.”
With that, he turned and left.
Only after he’d driven off did Abigail finally let out a relieved
breath.
If she had known he’d changed this much, she wouldn’t have bothered coming to dinner in the first place.
But when she turned to Felix, she noticed the faintest smirk on his face, and he was even lounging with his legs crossed, shaking his foot a little.
Amy and Justin were also barely holding back laughter, clearly in a much better mood.
The four of them had gotten a free late–night snack, and no matter what, the food had been great.
Abigail had always thought of Felix as someone who was particular about his lifestyle.

Before anyone could say anything to break the silence, Justin’s phone rang.
He stepped aside to answer, and his face turned serious as he listened. After a long pause, he hung up and hurried back to the table.
“They just called from the station,” he said, his expression grim. “A young woman jumped off a building. They need us to head back right away.”
Justin glanced at Amy with a somewhat apologetic look. “Amy, I won’t be able to take you home.”
Amy stood up. “It’s fine. You’ve got work. I’ll figure it out.”
Abigail spoke up as well. “Don’t worry. We’ll take her home later.”
That seemed to put Justin at ease. He quickly hailed a cab and rushed off.
As soon as he left, Amy slumped back into her seat, looking like her spirit had been drained.
Felix poked at Amy’s bowl with his fork.
“So, things getting serious with Justin? You know, he’s a cop, and with his job, there will be plenty of times he has to bail on you. If you’re going to be with him, you’ll need to learn how to handle that.”

Abigail sat down next to her and gave her shoulder a light pat.
“I think Justin’s a great guy. Sure, his job keeps him busy, but at least it brings some security. You’ve got good taste.”
When Amy heard that, she couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
She eagerly grabbed Abigail’s arm, practically bouncing in her seat as she excitedly began recounting the story of Justin’s
confession earlier.
Abigail listened, getting caught up in the excitement.
Felix watched the two of them, completely ignored, and let out a small, exasperated sigh.
Just then, Henry called.
Felix stood up and moved aside to take the call.
“What’s up?”
Henry’s voice was frantic. “Mr. Rowe, this is bad. The woman you saved today, the one who asked for your help… she jumped.”
The smile instantly vanished from Felix’s face. His brow furrowed with concern. “What?”
