Chapter 8
I pulled away from her. “The money is all there,”
I said. “From now on, I don’t want anything to
do with you.”
They panicked. “No, honey, you are our
daughter!” they said. It was true, I was, but they sure didn’t act like it for the last eight years.
“Riley, we will give you anything! What is it that you want?”
“When is your birthday? We will throw a party for you, better than the one we threw for
console her.
Even Liam was stunned “Riley’s birthday is on
the same day as Piper’s…”
Yeah, my birthday was the same as hers. And
they forgot mine.
My parents were defeated. They understood the
hell that I had been going through.
My dad breathed, his back bent forward “Riley,
we made a mistake. How about this, I’ll give
you 30% of the company. Is that enough to
make amends?”
The room went crazy! 30%! They were offering
me a fortune! They thought I would accept but I shook my head. “I’m not interested in any of
that! I don’t want anything from you, I am just
here to get my money back. You have the
daughter you always wanted, you don’t need
uduymer you always wameu, you dont neeu
another one. I’m out.” I turned and left. But
then I picked up this little box I was holding. It
was Liam’s family heirloom. “Liam, here’s your
lucky charm.”
His eyes widened. He remembered promising
- me. “I will be there for you always! Even if they
all abandon you.” “We’re best friends, I won’t
let you get hurt.”
My past memories were like a knife cutting
through his heart.
The engagement party was ruined. The live
stream that was supposed to promote their
businesses turned into a disaster. Everyone
online turned against them and were
apologizing to me.
“Oh my god, she signed three hundred IOUs?!
She is suffering!”
“If they had given her even a little bit of the
<
love that they were giving the adopted
daughter, she wouldn’t have left!”
“I knew her in elementary! She was so sweet to
her sister! How did this happen?!”
The comment from my classmate went viral.
“Riley was very sweet to her sister, she barely
ate just so her sister could have some lunch.”
My parents and Liam read it. They stared at
Piper, waiting for her to say something.
“You said that she spent all of the money and
didn’t let you eat!” My mom asked Piper. “You
lied all this time?!”
