Liam’s blood ran cold. He stared at Bethany, his
voice trembling.
“What? You don’t love Chad?”
Bethany laughed.
“Of course not.”
Liam went pale. He staggered back, fumbling
for his boutonniere.
“Shut up!”
“Sophie isn’t dead. We’re getting married!
Today’s our wedding!”
His eyes were bloodshot. He backed away from
Bethany, closer to the water’s edge.
“Sophie, don’t be scared.”
Bethany’s eyes widened, a flicker of jealousy
<
and disbelief crossing her face.
“Liam, what the hell are you doing?!”
He was totally gone.
They wrestled him back from the water,
wrestling him to the ground.
Tears streamed down his face. His suit was
ruined. He lay there, broken.
“Sophie, I screwed up.”
“Come back.”
- 7.
Oblivious, I had my surgery. My messed–up leg
was straightened.
“With rehab, you’ll walk like normal again.”

The professor passed on the doctor’s news, his
eyes full of pity.
“If we’d done this earlier, you wouldn’t have
suffered.”
“So long.”
Resting in the hospital bed, I felt nothing.
I was just glad I had another shot.
I took the flowers he offered.
“It’s okay. It’s over now.”
The spike in my foot was gone.
While I recovered, I got a new phone. I logged
onto the web and saw a video.
I stopped cold.
<
Liam, kneeling by the river. A car being pulled
out of the water. Bethany smiling.
I spaced out and accidentally liked it.
I checked out the comments.
Liam thinks I’m dead.
I smiled.
Professor Evans said something after checking
my report.
“Sophie, you’ll never have kids…”
I signed the surgery papers, and I brought my
research.
“That’s my child.”
I would dedicate my life to the lab.

<
Let Liam think I was dead..
It was better this way.
- 8.
They never found my body.
The rescue team said it could have washed out.
No one saw me in the car, and the driver was
dead.
Liam held a funeral for me. Then he found all
my stuff was gone.
He went to Bethany.
“Where’s Sophie’s stuff?”
Bethany smirked.
“Drobably thrown out It was trach ”
Г
She put on lipstick and ruined my picture.
“Her parents are dead, so no one is even
looking. You don’t have to do a funeral for her.”
“She was just baggage.”
Liam grabbed the picture.
“Shut up!”
The photo was ruined.
Bethany started to whine.
“What did I say wrong?!”
“Sophie didn’t deserve you. A cripple who
couldn’t have kids! An old hag!”
“Why waste a funeral on her?”
W will not marrind!!
<
“We will get married!”
Liam’s face turned black.
He knelt.
“I promised I’d take care of her!”
“What have I done?”
He looked at Bethany.
“This is your fault!”
Bethany frowned.
“How is this my fault?!”
