Chapter 7
My parents insisted on staying, refusing to leave until I agreed to come home.
They were so used to a life of luxury that it didn’t take long for them to fall ill due to the change in environment.
Not only did I have to care for the wounded, but I also had to look after them.
Mom, after suffering a high fever, became especially dependent
on me.
“Sophie, once we’re back home, I’ll return that bank card to you. The money inside, I swear, I haven’t touched a penny of it. How could we ever spend your money?”
Seeing her in such a weakened state, I felt a twinge of emotion.
But that evening, as I passed by their hospital room, I overheard them on a video call with Kyla.
“We finally managed to convince your sister to come back, and it’s all thanks to you, Kyla, you’re so smart.
“Don’t worry,
we’ll make sure Sophie is there to witness your wedding to Eddie.”
Standing outside the door, I felt like I had fallen into an ice pit.

They didn’t care about the danger they were in, traveling so far just to get me back. Turned out they wanted to force me to witness Kyla’s happiness, using this as a manipulative tactic.
I pretended not to know and agreed to return for Kyla’s wedding.
Kyla’s wedding dress was the same one I had picked out with Eddie years ago.
Even the venue’s decorations were based on my designs.
When Eddie saw me, there was a flicker of guilt in his eyes.
“Sophie, I’m sorry. It’s all my fault.”
But I had long lost any feelings for him.
The moment he chose to favor Kyla over me, we could never go back.
As the wedding ceremony progressed, my parents cried endlessly, full of reluctance to part with their daughter.
But then, an unexpected guest arrived.
A woman, looking almost deranged, rushed onto the stage and stabbed Kyla several times.
“You heartless doctor, you killed my son! Give me back my son!”

The scene descended into chaos. I watched coldly as sirens. blared.
Eddie, holding a bloodied Kyla in his arms, screamed at me.
“Sophie, please, save your sister!”

Kyla was unconscious and rushed to the hospital. I, along with the other doctors, worked to save her.
She had lost a lot of blood, and the blood bank was short of her blood type. I had no choice but to ask everyone present,
“Is anyone here with AB blood? We urgently need a blood transfusion for the patient!”
Eddie immediately raised his hand, and I hurriedly instructed a nurse to take him to donate.
Meanwhile, my parents stood frozen, stunned by what they had just heard.
“We’re both O blood type. How can Kyla be AB?”
Kyla survived the danger, and I later learned the full story from others.
It turned out that the highly–publicized high–speed rail medical incident years ago had been staged by Kyla.
Her medical skills were lacking, and she hadn’t fully treated the boy.

The boy passed away soon after, but my parents used money to cover it up.
The boy’s mother, with no one to turn to, found out about Kyla’s wedding and showed up at the banquet to demand compensation.
I shook my head. So, this was the “proud” daughter my parents were so eager to defend. I couldn’t believe she had done such a vile thing.
Yet, despite everything, my parents were still willing to clean up her mess.
