Chapter 10
My life was on a roll, while on the other side
of town, Jess had hired a new nanny from an
agency.
I heard that she was determined to pay the
same salary and find someone better than
- me. After a full day at different agencies, she
was almost kicked out for causing trouble.
“$1800 isn’t even enough for my living
expenses.”
“You don’t want a nanny. You want free
く
labor. What’s wrong with your face?”
“How could you even be looking for a nanny
when you’re being so cheap?”
That’s what the agency nannies told her.
Jess was upset. She raised the salary to
$3,000, but still no one would apply.
Live–in nannies were making about $6,000 to
$7,000 a month, not even counting food and
lodging. Her $3,000 salary was a joke.
After many days of searching, someone finally
agreed to work for her.
く
Jess was thrilled, and immediately texted me
to brag.
“Chloe, I told you that you would regret
leaving me. Look, I’m hiring a new nanny with
$3,000. I will never give you the opportunity
to return.”
“When your boss is done with you and kicks
you to the curb, I’m curious where you’ll find a job with your junior college degree. You’ll
end up starving.”
I turned off my phone and ignored her.
Jess wasn’t happy for too long. One day,
when I got back from class, I saw a few
く
police cars downstairs. Curious, I squeezed
myself into the crowd.
It was someone I knew.
Jess’s new nanny was willing to accept the
low pay because no one else would hire her.
She was a thief.
When she started working for Jess, she acted
like she was perfect. She took care of all the
chores and cleaned everything in the house.
Jess finally let her guard down.
The nanny then started sneaking into the
bedrooms while cleaning, stealing money
く
from Jess’s husband.
ز
Her husband thought he got caught, so he
didn’t say anything.
Realizing that she hadn’t been caught, the nanny grew bolder. She stole Jess’s gold jewelry, ate her supplements, and even gave
the kid sleeping pills when he was too loud.
But that wasn’t the biggest issue. The big
problem was that when the house was empty,
she wore Jess’s lace nightgown and took a nap in the master bedroom. Jess’s husband
came home early because he had been
drinking, and he found her there.
く
He assumed she was his wife, and they
hooked up.
When Jess got back and saw them doing the
deed, she was devastated.
