Chapter 14 Let a Chance Slip By
At the same time, Lily, who Samson said was flirting around, stood beside Elijah quietly. Shel stared into the bonfire, seemingly to have fallen into a trance.
“But Lily really is pretty. I mean, the moment she went there, everyone else just looked. subpar in comparison.” Robert heard Samson continue with his words after glancing in Lily’s direction.
Robert squinted. Everyone acknowledges Lily’s beauty. Even Mom helped persuade me to agree when Grandpa forced me to marry her. I can still recall Mom’s words. At least she’s pretty, so your kids won’t look too bad. Her beauty seemed to be the only good reason Mom could come up with then.
And now, with her floral dress and pair of pigtails, she does stand out among the crowd. She looks more like a young lady than a divorced woman, though.
Samson lowered his voice, asking, “Boss, why didn’t you fall for a pretty lady like her?”
Why didn’t I fall for her? Robert gazed at Lily, turned around, and replied softly, “Because she has nothing except for good looks.”
Samson was surprised. Then, a slightly embarrassed look was painted across his face as he thought. Lily does only have good looks going for her. She does not come from a wealthy family and has not graduated from any prestigious university. She didn’t even have a job before she was married to Robert. Aside from her beauty, there truly is nothing else to her.
Because of that, many from the Taylor Group actually didn’t believe she could marry him. After all, Robert had countless women adoring him, and any one of them was better than Lily. Yet, nobody expected that the woman who ended up marrying Robert would be someone like Lily.
Samson looked down, out of anything to say.
Just then, the woman beside Robert looked around and huddled around him. “Why don’t we take a stroll around, Mr. Taylor?” she suggested. It’s boring sitting around here.
After pondering for a bit, Robert nodded. “Sure,
Our partnering company had sent this lady over, but don’t want to know if there is a deeper reason for this. For me, this trip is all about business.
Unaware of Robert’s thoughts, the woman was delighted when he agreed to her request. Hence, she stood up, straightened her clothes, and strolled along the seaside with Robert.
Samson sat there momentarily and then decided to follow Robert. One look and he could tell this woman liked Robert. It was obvious from how she looked at him.

However, Samson disliked her. At least until now he hadn’t seen anyone more suited to be Robert’s wife than Lily was.
As they strolled, Robert started discussing matters regarding the collaboration, much to the woman’s amusement. “Everyone says you’re a workaholic, but I didn’t believe them. I guess I have to change my mind now. You even work when you’re supposed to be relaxing.”
Upon hearing that, Robert chuckled. “I would have been sleeping in the hotel if I wanted to relax. I came out here naturally for work.”
The woman paused, her facial expression stiffened a little. Shortly after, she smiled again.
I was so happy that Robert readily agreed when I asked him out tonight. I thought he also wanted to have fun, but it turned out that all he wanted to talk about was work. My goal for inviting him out tonight isn’t work–related, though. In fact, the collaboration with the Taylor Family was never my goal.
The two went to a quieter area, much to Samsons dismay. At the same time, he whipped out his phone to text Lily, chastising her for letting this chance slip by. ‘How could you walk away. with another guy when you have the perfect chance to rekindle your romance with my boss. at such a romantic place?‘
Lily received the message. After taking a glance at it, she deleted it. Just then, Elijah handed. her the kebab. She smiled and took it. “Thanks.”
After that, he handed her a glass of juice. “Do those guys from earlier know you?”
“Now, where did that question come from?” Lily was surprised.
Elijah scratched his head somewhat sheepishly. I just think they were looking at you weirdly.”
She stared at her juice for a while before breathing out a sigh. “No. I don’t know those people.”
