Dad glared at me, like he wanted to kill me. If
people weren’t holding him back, he would have
beaten me to a pulp.
“Ashley is not my daughter, I don’t want
anything to do with her. The house, the cars, the company, I built it all myself. You two can
get out with nothing.”
Dad announced his decision without hesitation.
I tried one last time. “Uncle Frank and Mom are

related, scientifically we have similar genes. It’s
normal for a niece to look like her uncle.
Don’t just listen to one side of the story. Mom
has been your wife for years! You know how
loyal she is to you and this family.”
Mom told me that my grandparents didn’t
approve of her dating Dad.
Dad was an orphan, and Mom wouldn’t get a
dowry or a wedding if she married him. She
wouldn’t have any help raising the kids.
I’ve seen pictures of Mom when she was young.
She was beautiful, she could have found a
better man.
Our family was poor when I was little. Dad
worked odd jobs, and Mom made and sold tofu.
She woke up before dawn every day.
Thanks to Mom’s hard work, she made her first

pot of money, and she gave it to Dad to start
his own business.

She said Dad was talented and would succeed
if he had the opportunity.
She was right. She always thought she was
happy, that her husband still loved her after all
these years, and that her family was doing well.
Just yesterday, Dad washed her feet. He always
called her “baby.”
So, Dad’s sudden distrust and heartlessness
shocked her.
She stared at Dad, tears blurring her vision.
Finally, she said sadly, “Yang Haozheng, I don’t
even recognize you anymore.”
Dad’s eyes were red with anger. “I was the one who was fooled for twenty years! You are the most despicable and shameless woman! It’s

most despicable and shameless woman! It’s
useless to say anything more, I don’t want to see you again!”
My grandparents tried to break up the fight, hoping Dad would think about their years together and not make a scene before Uncle Frank’s funeral.
Dad had a good reputation: honest,
hardworking, loving to his wife, and friendly.
He was always a good son–in–law, too. Everyone said Mom had found the right man.
Today was the first time he lost control in front of everyone and yelled at his wife and child. So,
everyone sided with Dad.
Dad said generously, “For the sake of the family
we once were, I won’t make a scene today, but
the divorce is happening!”

Then Dad grabbed Brittany’s hand and started
to walk away.
I stopped him. “Since everything is out in the
open, we should talk things through.
You’re choosing not to have me as your
daughter, so from now on, I don’t have you as
my father either. You’ve been waiting a long
time for this day, haven’t you?”
Dad glared at me like he wanted to kill me!
I had already contacted a lawyer, wanting to
minimize the damage and resolve things
privately.
But now, I decided to fight my biological father
myself!
