A mechanical voice breaks my train of
thought.
I turn off my phone and walk into the surgical
room.

Frank exhales:
“Lauren told you?”

Frank calls again, sounding more confident

“Josie, it’s always been you. There’s nothing
with me and Lauren. She has a sick dad, and I
didn’t want to help. I just refused to give her
five million to pay for her father.”
Me and Lauren roll our eyes.
I speak:
“Really? Because Lauren told me that you and
Emily are soulmates, and you hired her whole
family in the company.”
Frank rushes:
“Me and Emily are distant. It’s not her family I

He’s making this all up.
I pretend to be a wreck:
“I fired them because I was jealous, so I am
taking her back!”
“What?”
Frank is raging, and I’m trying not to laugh.
I’m smiling:
“Get her back!”
We both hang up. His phone rings. It’s Emily.
She slaps him.
He’s desperate and does not know what to do
with himself.
I give him a shot:
“What’s wrong honey, you want to bring her
back?”
We drive away laughing.
Lauren is upset:
“It would be better for me.”
“I gave you ten millions to be the CEO and
boss me and that is it. I made a great deal
with you, ok? You’re welcome!”
Lauren smiles.
I ask:
“Didn’t I get hurt trying to save Frank?”
Lauren agrees.
“This time, let’s lock them!”
