- 11.
That night, I stayed at the hospital.
I slept well.
く
I probably felt relieved that I wouldn’t owe the
Millers anything.
Brandon was in the VIP suite.
Everyone was with him, taking care of him.
I wasn’t surprised that no one came to see
- me.
Even Mom, who used to claim she loved me, was nowhere to be seen.
Just before I was wheeled into the operating room, Mom ran in.
“No! We’re not doing this surgery! My baby!”
Mom was crying.
She pushed away all the medical staff.
“Mom?”
I asked.
Mom cried louder.
“Don’t call me Mom!
I am your mother!
You’re the son I gave birth to!”
I looked at her face.
I knew that she was my biological mother!
I realized what was going on.
“Brandon was adopted.
You’re our real son.
Your dad said that your bullying people at
school would hurt the family business.
That’s why we faked the DNA test!”
“I’m sorry.
Mom didn’t protect you.
I didn’t know you were suffering so much!”
“I was wrong!
I am sorry!”
My mind was racing.
I remembered how she never told me what
was going on.
Ashley seemed to know.
“Mom, he just got here.
If you tell him everything now, it’ll all be for
nothing!
He’ll try to get revenge!”
<
“Shut up!”
Mom yelled.
“Don’t you know what your brother’s been
through? You all kept it from me!”
“I’ll find out who did this to you!”
Brandon hid behind Ashley.
Mom loved me, but I said, “Why didn’t you
believe me?”
I had told her everything.
I did not bully Brandon.
But she had still not believed me.
Didn’t she sign off on the fake DNA test?
Mom froze.
Everyone thought I would run away, but I did
the surgery.
Brandon didn’t know what to say.
We were wheeled into the operating room.
“Are you crazy?”
Mom screamed.
I closed my eyes.
<
I had to be crazy after the time spent in the
mental hospital.
If I hadn’t tried to kill myself so many times, I
would have died in the first month.
