He yelled at me for hurting Bethany.
“Who would joke about their own life? Delilah,
you can’t admit that you did something bad,
you’re pure evil!”
“If Bethany didn’t spare you, you would be in
jail, criminal!”
Then, he avenged Bethany.
I beat on the door until my knuckles were
bloody, but it didn’t matter.
He stared at me and tortured me.
“I’m doing this because you hurt Bethany!”
“You don’t know how much pain she felt,
that’s why you are torturing her!”
“I promised her I would take care of her for
the rest of my life, and not even my wife can
hurt her!”
He will punish me no matter what!
So even if I died, he wouldn’t care!
The assistant came in and said, “Mr. Harrison,
Ms. Delilah… won’t come anymore.”

Chapter Two
Blake looked up, probably not seeing me.
He slammed his hands on the desk, his chest
heaving with fury.
“She can’t come? Her leg’s broken, not dead.”
“She’s starting to act all high and mighty,
does she think I’m going to beg?”
The assistant went pale, stammering, “Mr.
Harrison, Ms. Delilah… she’s gone.”
Just when I thought Blake might show a sliver
of remorse, he blindsided me again.
He swept everything off his desk, his eyes
burning with rage.
“I was going to be nice and let her out, and she decides to pull a disappearing act!”
“That’s just like Delilah, always trying to make things difficult.”
“She probably ran away because she’s guilty.
Where else would she be?”
For some reason, Blake had translated “gone”
into “missing.”
Bethany clung to Blake’s arm, shrinking into
him, her voice full of fake fear.
“Blake, what if Delilah’s trying to kill me? I’m
so scared.”
I almost burst out laughing.
How did she manage to play the victim so
flawlessly?
I was the one who suffered!
Blake’s whole demeanor shifted.
He radiated coldness, a demon rising from
hell.
Even the assistant looked terrified, but he
bravely tried to clarify.
“Mr. Harrison, she… she’s really gone.”
Blake sneered.
“I don’t care how sorry you feel for Delilah.
I’m the only one who matters!”
Г
“If you try to play games with me too, I’ll send
you to the pit bull!”
Something about those words hit the
assistant hard. He trembled.
“No… don’t send me to the pit bull!”
He must have seen what happened to me.
Blake, oblivious, stomped on the assistant’s
foot, barking more orders.
“Get going! If Delilah doesn’t show up in
fifteen minutes, you can both say hi to the
dog for me.”
The assistant stumbled away, his legs like
noodles. I was still stuck beside Blake and
Blake wrapped his arms around the shivering
Bethany, his voice soft and gentle, but with
an undercurrent of anger.
“Bethany, we’ll make Delilah pay. It’s her fault
for being so damn selfish.”
“I’m nice to her because she once saved my
life. It doesn’t give her the right to hurt us.”
Those words triggered a flood of memories. I
couldn’t help but cry.
I’d been in love with Blake throughout college.
I worked hard to get into his company,
becoming his assistant.
After I saved his life, I only asked one thing:
I could learn from him, and secretly admire
him.
I didn’t expect anything in return, just wanted
to be there for him.
Then his parents died in a plane crash, and I
became his lifeline.
He wanted to get married right away. I was
nervous, but thrilled.
Everything changed when Bethany came back
into the picture.
He needed my support, but he couldn’t take
his eyes off Bethany.
He explained, “Bethany is in a difficult
situation
her family went bankrupt and her
“She has a heart condition, and I’m the only
person she can count on. I can’t abandon
her.”
Bethany moved in with us.
Watching them together was agonizing.
He spent twenty–eight nights sleeping in
Bethany’s bed, claiming she needed help
adjusting.
He bulldozed the trees I’d planted to create a
ten million dollar garden for her, because she
liked flowers.
He acted like the perfect husband to Bethany.
What I couldn’t take was Blake secretly giving
I lost it, demanding an explanation.
He pushed me away, coldly stating, “I need to
focus on Bethany. I can’t have kids until she’s
okay!”
“Kids are a burden. It won’t change anything
between us, Delilah, don’t be selfish!”
I couldn’t understand his choices, and we
started to fight.
We drifted apart. The spark was gone.
Bethany was right, I wasn’t good enough for
Blake.
Deep down, he was still arrogant.
<
He didn’t want me to be his equal, and that
was everything.
A wave of sadness washed over me.
Did I figure this out too late? Or was it the
pain of my death still clinging to me?
Blake glanced at his watch.
As soon as fifteen minutes had passed, he
looked towards the door.
I wasn’t there.
“Delilah is going to test me, she wants to
die!”
He was close to me, but I was not longer
afraid of him
Instead, I wanted to know what he would do
when he found what was left of me.
Bethany didn’t show emotion.
Blake stood up, sounding chaotic.
“Bethany, you stay here. I’ll make Delilah beg
for forgiveness.”
“I’m going to punish her, or she’ll start
walking all over me.”
