Chapter 10
Pure rage burns through me as I stare her down. Before she can finish her pathetic whining, my hand cracks across her face so hard the sound echoes down the
hallway.
Her perfect cheek blooms red instantly, handprint stark against her skin. For a second she just stares, shocked anyone would dare touch her. Then rage fills her
eyes.
I lean in close, my voice pure venom: “A few minutes? I’ve given you a whole fucking week! “Didn’t think about consequences when you shoved me? When you tried to get rid of us both? When you were flaunting yourself in my hospital room like some victory lap?“”
I grab her arm again, fingers digging in. “Scared now? Too fucking late!” As we near security, she starts laughing – actually laughing. “Oh honey, you really think cameras are going to help you? They’ve been dead for ages. Your husband made sure of that…” Her voice drops to a whisper. “Right after he bent me over his desk. God, the way he touches me… You remember how good those hands feel, don’t you?”
“He’s my alibi, honey. And trust me, he’d rather burn those tapes than let anyone see what we’ve been doing in that parking garage. You really think he’ll pick you? The boring little wife who couldn’t even keep his baby safe?”
“He’s always forgiven me, no matter what. This time won’t be any different! He never loved you or that baby. Now the kid’s gone, you’re even more pathetic compared to me.”
“You were just keeping him warm while I was studying in London. Now I’m back to
take what’s mine!”
Surprise flickers through me. The nerve of this bitch, still playing innocent after
what she’s done.
The golden girl, so sure of herself. And she’s right about one thing–I never expected Marcus to take my side.
But he won’t stop me from getting justice for our baby.

The bloody scene flashes before my eyes. I stare at Ray with pure disgust.
Before she can say another word, I grab a fistful of her perfect hair and drag her toward security. “Move your ass! We’re going to the police station!”
She screams, but I couldn’t care less.
I throw her at the police officers‘ feet like the trash she is. Wiping my hands on my
jeans in disgust: “Here’s your suspect. Got that footage?”
The officer reviewing the tapes looks up, his eyes boring into Ray’s swollen face. Her smugness wilts under his stare.
“All copied. Time to head back to the station.”
As he stands, I cut in: “Wait. There’s one more thing to check.”
I make them save the security footage of our hallway confrontation – every word of her bragging about Marcus, every threat she made. Her little confession about knowing the cameras were “broken.”
That’s when her mask finally cracks – really cracks. All that smugness drains away
as she realizes what she’s done.
As they move to take her, she collapses to her knees, begging: “I know I messed up! Please, give me another chance! That video will destroy me…”
“I didn’t know the baby would die! I just pushed a little–I researched it, the baby
should have been fine so close to delivery…”
Her panicked babbling reveals everything. If it was an accident, why research it first? This was premeditated murder.
And all her research didn’t show her the concrete step by the elevator? When she
shoved me from behind, my pregnant belly slammed straight into that edge. My organs were already compressed from the pregnancy. The impact plus the baby’s weight caused immediate internal bleeding.
If that doctor hadn’t found me, I wouldn’t just have lost the baby. I’d be dead too.
And now she thinks playing dumb will save her? Dream on, bitch.
I want her rotting in a cell. I want her to pay for every drop of blood she spilled.
I stare at her terrified face one last time, then turn to walk out without a word.

That’s when Marcus walks in clutching my medical file, looking absolutely
destroyed.
