Others might not understand the subtext, but Ellis could hear it clearly.

As she had suspected, Scott had precisely this idea. Despite his power and influence throughout his life, even a figure like him couldn’t escape the desire to dote on grandchildren. He adored newborns and would have been thrilled if there were new additions to the Hudson family every year.
Although the Hudson family’s inheritance was already decided in Easton’s favor, even after three years of marriage without a child, Scott wasn’t in a rush. His dissatisfaction with Ellis, however, was clear, he would have preferred that Easton’s child be born from a high–society lady rather than his daughter–in–law, who was merely an adopted daughter.
Until Easton took matters into his own hands and dealt with Ellis, Scott had people ready to handle it for him.
If not for Sophia and Carly insisting that Easton marry Ellis and Easton ultimately obeying his mother’s wishes, Scott would have firmly prevented her from ever gaining this status, sparing the family the embarrassment she occasionally caused.
Scott waved his hand at Victoria, smiling warmly. “Victoria, come sit with me and keep company.”
“Yes, grandpa,” Victoria replied with a soft smile, quickly taking a seat beside him on the sofa.
Though Easton stood right next to Scott, he hadn’t been called over. To Ellis, Easton might as well have been invisible, his earlier behavior having publicly humiliated her.
Her mental endurance seemed to have weakened, and she no longer had the courage to continue facing everything in front of her. She wanted to escape.
Besides, she was insignificant here. Her presence at the birthday banquet made no difference; it would go on just the same with or without her.
Forcing a smile, she told Carly that she was tired and needed to rest, then quietly walked toward a less crowded area.
The estate was vast, with designated areas for guests to rest. In the past, she would confidently exercise her rights as Mrs. Hudson, retreating to Easton’s private room when she was tired. But now, that was no longer an option. She was simply a guest and would have to stay in the appropriate quarters.
As she turned away and left, her back facing everyone, Carly subtly frowned.
What a hopeless mess! Ellis didn’t know how to seize her opportunities, allowing Victoria to take advantage of the situation!
Glancing at Victoria, who was effortlessly pleasing Scott, Carly felt an overwhelming sense of frustration.
Where had her cleverness gone? Before being adopted and married to Easton, Ellis had known exactly how to win favor with everyone in the Hudson family. But after the marriage, she’d grown a temper, losing her sharpness. She no longer knew ho
to please Scott and had even become rebellious, opposing both Easton and Carly.
Couldn’t she understand all the painstaking efforts made on my behalf?

Carly wasn’t the only one watching Ellis’s retreating figure. Easton glanced in her direction as well, the corner of his lips curling into a faint, mocking sunile.
He predicted that within a week. Ellis would come to him.
She had already arranged a meeting with him through his aunt not long ago, and now, just a few days later, she had found another opportunity to see him by attending his grandfather’s birthday banquet, all while maintaining a front of being upset with him over the kidnapping.
How long could her arrogance last? Throwing a tantrum, expecting me to apologize and bow to her? Ridiculous! She truly had no idea of her own worth.
After a moment’s appraisal of Easton, Carly softened into her kind and amiable aunt persona, asking, “Easton. I can handle the guests and keep your grandfather company. Ellis didn’t seem to be feeling well. Why don’t you go and look after her for me?”
“Are you getting old. Aunt Carly? She’s perfectly fine. She doesn’t need me,” Easton replied without hesitation, then took a seat on the other side of Scott, calmly making tea.
Carly’s mind whirred with concern as she watched his graceful tea–making movements. It was clear that Victoria was gradually edging out Ellis. Her frustration mounted as she thought of how uncooperative Ellis had been. She was like an ant on a hot pan, anxiously searching for a solution.
Throughout history, children have always been the key bond in marriages. Children were the glue that held families together.
At this point, the only viable plan was to ensure that Ellis became pregnant with Easton’s child as soon as possible.
Once the tea was brewed, Easton poured a cup for Scott, then one for Victoria, and finally for himself. He sipped it slowly and elegantly.
As Carly continued to fixate on him, a daring and reckless idea suddenly took root in her mind.
Being under scrutiny wasn’t something Easton could ignore. Noticing his aunt’s odd behavior, he turned his attention toward her.
A proper birthday banquet required a hostess to welcome guests. With his grandmother long gone an
his mother estranged from his grandfather for years, she never attended these events. Ellis, as his wife, had the qualifications to take on the role of hostess, but she was incapable of handling it. This left only his aunt to take on the responsibility.
As long as Carly’s actions didn’t cross any outrageous lines, Easton wasn’t inclined to interfere.
Even though her earlier suggestion of a great–grandchild as next year’s birthday gift had been a bit much, he knew Ellis had mentioned having children to him before. Clearly, the idea had originated from her. His aunt was merely playing along, at most an accomplice.
