Chapter 3 Her Children
It had been years since Shiloh had seen her sons. Even if they didn’t love her, they were still her children
Looking out at the raging storm outside the window, Shiloh frowned, an uneasy feeling gnawing at her.
As she brewed coffee, Travis peeked out from his room, clutching his favorite toy car. Slowly and cautiously, he shuffled toward Nora.
Inside her playpen. Nora waved her chubby little hands. “Travist”
Hearing her daughter’s voice, Shiloh turned around just as Travis froze in place outside the playpen, his movements stiffening.
Catching her gaze, he awkwardly looked down and mumbled, “This is the new toy Dad bought me. I wanted to give it to Nora.”
When Shiloh didn’t stop him, Travis handed the toy car to Nora and said, “It’s for you.”
Nora stood up and walked to the inside to play.
ge of the playpen, happily grabbing Travis’s hand, trying to pull him
Marty suddenly shouted, “Travis, don’t give it to her!”
Adrian returned to the sound of Marty’s loud crying.
His sharp, chiseled features were cold with fury. Lips pressed into a line, Adrian strode quickly toward the sobbing boy.
Nora, clutching the toy car, nestled quietly in Shiloh’s arms, her curious eyes fixed on the crying boy.
Seeing Marty in tears, Travis rushed over to comfort him but was shoved to the ground.
“I don’t want Travis! Go play with the bad woman’s daughter instead!” Marty yelled.
Adrian picked up the fallen Travis and turned, his cold voice scolding Marty. “Marty. She’s still your mother. Apologize to her. And to Travis as well.”
Marty cried even louder, shouting, “No, she’s not my mom! She doesn’t love me! Dad, I want Jessie! Take me to Jessie! Travis likes the bad woman’s daughter. He’s a traitor!”
Adrian’s face darkened as he prepared to reprimand him further, but Shiloh’s voice cut in.
Shiloh said, “Adrian, he’s right. I don’t deserve to be his mother. The storm has passed. It’s time for you all to leave my home.”
Her words were blunt and clear.
The storm, however, had not eased with the dawn; it was heavier than the night before. The rain was so dense it obscured everything, even from inside the house.
Adrian hadn’t expected her to be so heartless. The air around him grew impossibly colder.
Adrian, as the heir to the Frost family, was born into privilege and destined to command the world’s finest

resources.
He was a prodigy and a legend in business, and he had never known failure, except for his five–year marriage to Shiloh.
His voice was icy. “Shiloh, these are your sons. You’re really going to send them out in this weather?”
Frustration laced Adrian’s tone as he tugged at his collar.
“Shiloh, Travis and Marty just got over their fevers. They’re only six. Are you really going to hold a grudge against a child for saying something thoughtless?”
Travis chimed in, trying to explain. “Dad, the car I gave Nora was mine. Marty’s car is at home. He thought I gave her his car. That’s why he’s upset.”
Adrian had never denied his sons anything they asked for, but hearing Marty throw a tantrum over a toy car made his gaze harden.
Adrian said. “Marty, Travis can do what he wants with his own toy. You are unreasonable.”
Still holding the toy car, Nora wiggled out of Shiloh’s arms and toddled over to Marty.
She held the toy car out to Marty. “Marty, play.”
She thought giving him the car would stop his tears.
Instead, Marty turned his face away, tears rolling down his cheeks as he cried even harder.
Whenever Nora cried, her mom would hug and comfort her. Mimicking this, Nora put the car on the coffee table and waddled over to hug Marty, her tiny hands gently patting his back.
“Brother, don’t cry,” she said in her baby voice.
Marty, never having been comforted by a child before, felt a little embarrassed. Nestling into Adrian’s arms, he muttered, “But I’m not your brother.”
Nora, confused by Marty’s words, looked up at Adrian, unsure what Marty meant. Then she turned and toddled over to Shiloh, picking up her candy jar along the way.
“Mommy, candy,” she said sweetly.
Shiloh patted her head and handed her a piece of candy. Just as she was about to pick Nora up, the little girl ran over to Travis and handed him the candy.
“For Travis,” she said..
Shiloh was surprised. Candy was Nora’s favorite treat, and she was only allowed one piece a day.
