Noticing Marty stealing glances at her candy, Nora thought he wanted some too. Without a second thought, she generously offered it to him.
Marty slapped the candy away, snorting coldly. I don’t eat candy bought by the bad woman.”
Adrian’s brows furrowed tightly. Angry at Marty’s rudeness, he scolded, “Marty. That’s very impolite. Nora gave you candy. What should you say?”
Marty shrank back, glancing at Nora, then at Shiloh’s expressionless face. Finally, in a sulky tone, he muttered, “Thank you, Nora.”
Nora, cheerful and easygoing, giggled and picked up her candy jar. She handed the entire jar to Travis.
“All for Travis,” Nora said.
She liked Travis more, as he played cars with her.
Travis was stunned, clutching the jar and staring at her, not expecting such a gesture.
Nora tugged at his sleeve and urged, “Travis, call Mommy
Travis glanced at Shiloh, feeling both awkward and shy,
He hesitated, making Nora impatient.
Every time she wanted candy, she had to call her mom. How could Travis eat candy without calling Mommy first?
Grabbing his hand, she led him to Shiloh, pointed at the candy and then at Shiloh, and repeated, “Mommy.”
Blushing, Travis hesitated for a long moment before finally whispering, “Mommy.”
At his word, Shiloh’s eyes immediately welled up with tears. She tilted her head to hold them back and. nodded gently at him.
Nora beamed brightly.
Nora didn’t understand the tension between the adults and Travis. She only knew that candy made people happy.
Seeing Travis with a whole jar of candy while he only had one piece, Marty felt a pang of jealousy. He stole a glance at Shiloh, wondering if calling her “Mommy” would earn him a jar of candy too.
Travis took a lollipop from the jar, unwrapped it, and handed it to Nora.
Then he took another for himself and put the rest back on the table.
He extended the lollipop in his hand to Marty, saying, “Marty, this one’s for you.”

Adrian, always softer with the children, gently patted Travis’s head. “Travis, since Nora gave you the candy, you should enjoy it yourself. Marty doesn’t need yours.”
In the Frost family, there had never been any expectation for Travis to give up things to Marty. Everything had always been split equally between the two boys.
Back in Shiloh’s arms, Nora watched Adrian instruct Marty to apologize.
Apologizing to Travis was quick and easy.
But apologizing to Shiloh made Marty visibly uncomfortable. His voice was barely audible, and he didn’t dare look her in the eye.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have called you a bad woman.”
The word “Mommy” hovered on his lips, but he couldn’t bring himself to say it. He glanced at Shiloh, hoping she would comfort him like she used to, but she didn’t.
Her attention was entirely on Nora in her arms. Marty’s sense of injustice swelled.
Shiloh, noticing Marty’s reluctance, felt a pang of sadness herself and instinctively wanted to leave with her daughter.
Behind her, Travis’s eyes were filled with reluctance. This little girl, Nora, would call him Travis and share her candy. He really liked her.
He stole a glance at Shiloh, wanting to speak but too afraid. Lowering his head in disappointment, he wondered. Did Mom stop wanting me and Marty because she has Nora now? But Marty and I have been good too.
Adrian noticed the look of longing in Travis’s eyes and called out to Shiloh. “Shiloh, we need to talk.”
Shiloh shook her head. “There’s nothing to talk about. My husband will be back soon, so I suggest you all leave.”
Adrian’s brows knit sharply, his face darkening at her words. His jaw tightened, and when he spoke, his voice was sharp. “Shiloh, you really don’t waste any time, do you?”
He added, “Back then, you broke up with your first love and immediately married me. After our divorce, you rushed into another marriage and even had a daughter. You are truly something!”
Shiloh’s anger flared at his words. She bit back her emotions and said coldly, “So what?”
Not wanting to waste another word on him or let her emotions spiral further, she added, “You agreed to stay only one night. Please keep your word and leave with your sons.”
Adrian clenched his teeth, his frustration boiling over. “Shiloh, Travis and Marty are your children too. Are you really going to abandon your sons just because you have a daughter now?”
