Chapter 36 Decent Guy
Sarah felt a flutter of panic, but there was no way she’d admit that her medicinal soup hadn’t worked. Not a chance.
Supporting Asher, she said, “Asher, do you think you might be getting worse because of Jennifer? Maybe she upset you so much your condition flared up?”
Daniel, hobbling over with his injuries, chimed in, “Asher, I think you definitely got worse because of Jennifer! She’s the reason you’re like this!”
Daniel thought it was all Jennifer’s fault!
Asher opened his mouth to say something, but before he could get a word out, everything went dark, and he fainted.
Jennifer sat in the car, glancing sideways at the man next to her.
She was curious, thinking, “What is he doing here?”
Timothy, noticing her gaze, looked slightly uncomfortable. “What are you staring at?”
Jennifer coughed nervously. “Uh, well… What brings you here? Just passing by?”

She thought, “That doesn’t make sense. This isn’t even the CBD.”
Eric, sitting in the front passenger seat, interjected, “Mr. Clark came specifically to pick you up.”
Surprised, Jennifer turned to Timothy, confusion written all over her face.
Timothy deliberately kept his expression stern. “Don’t overthink it. It’s because of Grandma.”
“Madam Clark sent you to get me?”
“There’s a family gathering tonight, and you’re coming with me.”
Jennifer nodded. “Alright.”
She breathed a small sigh of relief, thinking, “So that’s why Timothy came to get me.
It’s all for Madam Clark’s sake. Just a show for her benefit.”
Silence settled in the car again.
Jennifer’s phone began buzzing incessantly in her bag. She didn’t need to check to know who it was.
She didn’t want to answer.
With a swift motion, Jennifer switched her phone to silent and stared out the window at the passing scenery.

Soon, the car came to a stop outside her school.

Timothy spoke in his usual calm, detached tone, “I’ll be back to pick you up after school. Be ready.”
“I got it. Thanks for coming to get me today.”
Jennifer thought Timothy was actually a pretty decent guy, even if she didn’t fully understand why he never bothered to defend himself against the accusations thrown his way.
She stole another glance at him. His handsome, icy expression made him seem untouchable like he was surrounded by an invisible “keep out” sign.
Leaning on her cane, Jennifer slowly made her way toward the school entrance.
Timothy watched her retreating figure–small but undeniably strong.
Eric broke the silence. “Mr. Clark, I think Ms. Hargreaves
has it pretty rough. Her brother treats her terribly. When she went back to the Hargreaves Villa yesterday, she was probably forced.”
Timothy tore his gaze away. “You talk too much. Drive.”
After arriving at the classroom, Jennifer settled into her seat and opened her book, determination shining in her eyes.

She thought, “I’ve wasted too much time on my brothers before. It’s time to reclaim all that lost time.
I could even discover a treatment for Timothy’s condition- something that could repair the nerves in his legs.
Then, he would be able to stand again.
Madam Clark would surely be pleased.
In my previous life, she treated me well, but I let her down because of the Hargreaves family.”
Not long after, Sarah entered the classroom, a model clutched in her hands.
As Vincent walked in, she promptly handed it to him. “Professor Moore, this is the model I worked on all night.”
He examined it briefly before responding, “Just set it down. While your brother led the incident, you share the responsibility in this matter. I hope we don’t have a repeat of this scenario.”
Vincent felt a twinge of discomfort, suspecting that most of Sarah’s models were actually Jennifer’s handiwork.
But without solid proof and given the family dynamics at play, he didn’t feel it was his place to pry.
Sarah’s expression faltered, and she lowered her gaze. “I understand.”

Vincent then turned to Jennifer, a smile breaking through his earlier frustration. “Jennifer, about that suggestion you made yesterday–I looked into it, and it actually solved the problem. You’ve done great work. I can’t wait to see your contributions to the project.”
Jennifer nodded appreciatively. “I’ll do my best, Professor Moore.”
Meanwhile, Sarah watched Jennifer from her seat, jealousy simmering beneath her composed surface.
“Damn it! This should’ve been my moment.
Lately, Jennifer has changed so much, becoming something I never used to be–unpredictable and beyond my control.”
After class, Jennifer headed straight to the study room, her mind focused on her goals.
Sarah, lingering behind, took out her phone and messaged Daniel: [Daniel, I’ve jotted down some lyrics for the new song. Can you take a look?]
Daniel quickly responded, surprise filling his tone: [This is pretty good, Sarah! You’ve really improved–way to go!]
Sarah: [Thanks, Daniel! I’m aiming to write a song that’ll wow everyone. I really don’t want to see you looking so stressed out.]
Daniel beamed, saying: [Sarah, you’re really stepping up. Unlike

some people who just manage to annoy me.]

With a smile, Sarah replied: [Daniel, I’m part of the Hargreaves family too. This is just what I’m supposed to do.]
He added: [Still, you must have more in store for that song, right? I can’t wait to hear the rest.]
Sarah’s smile faltered slightly at his words. This was the handwritten draft she had found in Jennifer’s room.
She hadn’t expected it to be incomplete.
