Today was her eighteenth birthday.
Mom and Dad were throwing her a big
coming–of–age party at a downtown venue.
When I walked in, the first thing I saw was a
group of girls in dresses.
They looked me up and down and frowned.
“Is she on the guest list?”
“I don’t think so. Madison doesn’t have
friends who look like that.”
Lewis put me behind him.
“Excuse me, we’re looking for someone.”
When they saw him, the girls blushed, and
smiles immediately spread across their faces.
“Who are you looking for, handsome? We’re
Madison’s best friends. We helped her plan
this party. We must know the person you’re
looking for.”
Lewis took my hand.
“Thank you, we know how to get there.”
The girls looked disappointed.

Before leaving, they glanced at me and
pouted disdainfully.
“How did she even…?”
“Hey? Madison?”
“Oh, it’s nothing. They said they’re looking for
someone. They don’t seem like they’re trying
to cause trouble, so I let them go.”
I turned back, curious.
I met eyes with a girl in a princess dress.
