Jennifer’s heart raced with anxiety as she quickly leaned over to grab the document.
But Timothy was faster. He beat her to it, his hand already reaching down to pick it up, and her entire body tensed up.
“Oh no… What if he suspects something? That I have an ulterior motive?” she thought, her pulse quickening.
Timothy glanced at the papers, seeing that they were references to nerve regeneration, specifically related to leg injuries.
His eyebrows furrowed slightly in surprise. He flipped through the pages slowly, his expression unreadable.
“I remember your major in college was design, not medicine,” Timothy said coolly, his tone laced with curiosity.
He was puzzled, thinking, “Why would she, of all people, be reading about something so specific–and something that just so happened to align perfectly with my current condition?”
Jennifer swallowed hard, forcing a smile as she replied, “Yes, but I’ve always had an interest in pharmacology. I occasionally read up on it. I even considered pursuing a double major at one point, but I never followed through.”
The car fell into a heavy silence after her explanation.

She thought, “He hates when people bring up his leg. What if he gets angry?”
To her surprise, Timothy didn’t explode in anger. Instead, he handed her the documents. “Keep these papers hidden. Don’t let Grandma see them.”
Jennifer blinked, taken aback.
She mused, “Is that all? He didn’t lose his temper?”
Timothy’s gaze was sharp as he looked at her, his eyes narrowing slightly. “Is there something else you want to say?”
Jennifer quickly averted her eyes, nodding. “I understand. I won’t let Madam Clark see them.”
She thought, “Of course. Timothy’s legs are paralyzed due to nerve damage.
If his grandmother saw this research, it would break her heart.”
As Jennifer carefully tucked the papers away, she couldn’t help but feel that Timothy was different from the rumors she’d heard about him.
After a moment of hesitation, she turned to Timothy again. “Your legs… is there really no hope at all?”

The temperature in the car seemed to drop instantly.

Eric, sitting in the front passenger seat, glanced back nervously, holding his breath for Timothy’s response. No one ever dared to bring up Timothy’s disability so openly.
Jennifer could feel the shift in Timothy’s mood. His expression grew colder, and his narrowed eyes held a depth of pain that was hard to fathom.
Timothy replied, his voice dripping with sarcasm, “Are you disappointed? Did you suddenly realize that having a disabled fiancé is embarrassing? Too bad. My legs aren’t getting better. You’ll just have to live with the disappointment.”
Jennifer shook her head quickly, her voice firm. “That’s not what I meant. I just think that with how fast medical science is advancing, maybe one day they’ll find a way to repair nerve damage. It’s not impossible.”
She wasn’t just trying to comfort him.
In her previous life, Jennifer had worked in Dylan’s lab and successfully developed a drug that could regenerate nerves.
It had been possible. At least, it was in her past life.
However, the side effects had been severe. Dylan had shamelessly taken her work and credited Sarah with the achievement.
Sarah had needed the accolade to complete her Ph.D., so

Jennifer had been forced to hand over her hard–earned
research.
Before she could refine the drug into a safer, more effective version, Jennifer had died.
That afternoon, Jennifer had been poring over books on the subject, determined to build upon her past research. She aimed to create a new version of the drug–one with reduced side effects and greater potency.
Timothy glanced down at his numb legs with a sarcastic smile. “This isn’t something that’s easily done.”
Ever since his injury, the Clark family had scoured the globe for a cure, consulting every specialist and trying every experimental treatment available.
Over the years, he had come to accept the harsh reality of his paralyzed legs.
A heavy silence settled in the car.
From the front seat, Eric glanced back at the couple. “Ms. Hargreaves, I truly believe that one day, someone will develop a drug to repair nerve damage. The Clark family has even set up a specialized lab for it. I’m confident that Mr. Clark will get the chance to walk again!”
Timothy shot Eric a warning look. “You talk too much.”
Jennifer smiled and nodded. “I agree. I believe that day will

come, and it might not be too far off.”

Timothy’s gaze lingered on Jennifer’s calm, unblemished profile.
“I don’t need your fancy words of comfort.”
He had heard it all before–the empty promises, the vague hopes.
But Jennifer only offered a sly, knowing smile. “This isn’t just comfort, I assure you. It’s the truth.”
There was no pity in her eyes, only certainty—as if she already knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that a cure was out there.
Her confidence was like a slap in the face to Timothy’s own cynicism.
Timothy quickly looked away, saying nothing.
His eyes drifted to the passing scenery outside the window, but his fist clenched tightly in his lap. Despite his outward calm, his inner peace was shattered.
Timothy thought, “Strange. Why am I letting the words of this girl get to me?”
