Chapter Five
I frowned. My mom died giving birth to me, and my dad made me keep her name. He
never remarried.

I hadn’t expected my last name to be a
reason for the people around me to start
gossiping and attacking me.
Sarah took out her phone and stared at me.
“Lindsay, if you really think you’re part of the
Thompson family, I guess we can get Mr. Thompson’s daughter to come here to find out about it. I got her on Facebook, so I will
just send her a quick message.”
My cousin did go to my school, although they
didn’t share the same classes. It also
surprised me that she was also friends with
Sarah. However, this could also be a good
opportunity.

“OK.”
Five minutes later, a girl in a dress showed
- up.
“Sarah, you said someone was pretending to
be my cousin? Where are they?”
Sarah showed the girl my way.
“Miss Thompson, that is Lindsay there. Is she
your cousin?”
I looked and frowned. My cousin was Ashley
Thompson, so if she was my cousin, she
would be named the same thing.
Ashley Thompson took one look at me with
disgust.
“I have never seen you before in my life.”
Sarah looked at the girl.
“She and your dad, John Thompson, have
been together. They both say that he is her
uncle, so I called you to see who this person
actually is.”
I was preparing to say that Ashley was an
imposter when she hit me across the face. My
head started to spin.
She moved her hands and scolded me:
“I can’t believe you would try to sleep with my
father and destroy other families like this. I
am done here.”
Everyone started to attack me after hearing
what she said.
“She is a terrible person, and I can’t believe
that she would sleep with someone to get to
where she is now. She is terrible, and they
should get rid of her.”
“She does not belong at the school, and she
ruins it for us all.”
“I have already called the teacher, and I will
call the school to see what she is doing about
her.”
Everyone pulled at my dress and attacked me,
and Mark stood there and watched.
“Since you got out of the relationship, you
have caused a lot of problems here. I believe

that you should tell Mr. Thompson that you do
not care for him any more and then return the
investment to us. I won’t tell the teachers to
kick you out of school.”
I swatted the hands away and pointed at
Ashley.
“I don’t know who you are, but you are ruining
my family name. This will be the day you
regret acting like this.”
I then looked at everyone else.
“I am going to call the police for attacking
and slandering me.”
When I said that, everyone’s faces fell. If they
called the cops, everyone would have a
record, ruining them for life.

They looked at Mark and Sarah, hoping they
would drop the case.
“We were just trying to clear your name, so
you should stop this from being a case.”
Mark said he did not care.
“Why should you care? She slept with
someone and now should deal with the pain.
If this goes to court, she is the only one that
will be in pain.”
Mark then looked at me.
“Lindsay, you should just leave it here. If you
just return Thompson’s investment, then we
won’t be at war.”
