Amy’s parents left.
Claire FaceTimed me, saying she had a
surprise.
I asked what it was.
She said, “You’ll see.”
I waited.
I rented an office building near the land I was
investing in.
The land was in the south part of town.
く
I hired twelve employees.
I worked at the office, planning the company’s
development, and also managing my Boston
company.
Things were going well, but then my high
school classmates showed up.
They came to my office, calling me boss, and
invited me to a reunion.
I looked past them and saw a woman in a
white dress.
Amy.
She’d put her hair up in a ponytail. She had
makeup on to cover up the years.
<
If you didn’t look closely, she still looked
pretty.
“Tom, Amy wanted us to come. She said we
haven’t seen each other in a while,” someone
said.
Everyone looked at Amy.
Amy was nervous. She tried to smile, but it
looked forced.
She finally smiled.
“Tom… can you come to the reunion?”
She touched her hair, showing a bruise on her
ear, and then quickly covered it up.
I looked at her.
<
She looked like a faded flower.
She was trying to bloom again.
But she’d been ruined.
I got up and had my secretary take care of
everyone. Then, I waved at Amy.
I wanted to talk to her alone.
She was happy and followed me out of the
office.
We went to the stairwell.
She was nervous, looking at me.
I didn’t want to look at her. “I told your
parents, I don’t want to see you. Just leave
<
Jake and try to live your life. You don’t need
to find me.”
Amy froze, her face turning pale.
She stepped back, leaning against the wall,
and started gagging.
