“Are you Sarah Lee? We heard your mom told
you the sentence that kills people! Can you
tell us what it is?”
“We’ve been trying to get it out of her for

“She used it again! Imagine how powerful that
line must be!”
“I’ll give you anything! Just tell me what it is!”
They looked like they were possessed.
I ran inside, slamming the door and locking it.
I huddled in my room, trying to block out the
voices.
Memories flooded my head.
Dad’s smile.
The hopeful look on his face when he made
his birthday wish.
Mark holding me when I felt hopeless, telling
me he’d take care of me forever.
The way he looked at me when he proposed.
