The analyst had helped him make great
contributions.
But, Brittany looked like she was in so much
pain…
Outside the warehouse, gunfire was still
sounding.
Brittany’s intimate partnership outweighed the
analyst’s assistance.
What’s more, if the intelligence officer
survived, it would be her who got the most
credit…
Jake made up his mind.
He grabbed his subordinate’s collar and said,
<
“Anyway, the perimeter has been resolved, so
there’s no need to waste time here. Just
throw a bomb in and say the bandits.
detonated it themselves. Hurry up, don’t
waste time.”
Jake bent down and picked up Brittany,
turning to leave.
The moment the bomb was thrown, Jake
turned back.
The light of the explosion illuminated the
woman who was tied up.
I smiled sadly at Jake.
Jake’s eyes widened.

Chapter 2
The blast wave knocked me out cold.
When I came to, I was already patched up.
Sean Donovan, the captain who’d pulled me
out, finally let out a quiet sigh of relief.
His voice was icy, like he was still mad at me.
“Slight concussion, pretty bad scrapes on
your arm, but you’ll bounce back. Lucky
you’re alive.”
I smiled weakly, wincing at the pain.
After all these years, he was still such a
hardass.
I closed my eyes as I listened to Sean brief

the higher–ups on the mission’s success.
Everything that had happened was a setup.
Or rather, the game had started the day
Brittany joined the team.
Brittany was a mole, planted by the enemy.
The top brass hadn’t expected Jake to fall for
such a basic honeytrap.
He claimed he loved me, but he was easily
swayed by another woman.
I didn’t want a man like that.
So Jake became a pawn, unknowingly playing
his part.
く
We used Jake and Brittany to feed the
organization false information, leading them
down a path to self–destruction.
Today, the moment I stepped into that
enemy–occupied field command, Operation
Decapitation was officially in motion.
The perimeter attacks were just a distraction,
a way for me to infiltrate the core base and
transmit the precise coordinates.
When Jake entered the warehouse, he found
a badly wounded leader.
That was because I’d already taken him out.
But only I and a few high–ranking officials
knew the truth.
く
The agency would announce that Jake’s team
had killed the leader, protecting me from
retaliation.
When we were planning the op, Sean’s eyes
flashed with anger. “Being a scapegoat is an
honor! If he wasn’t useful, I’d put a bullet in
his head!”
The original script had me walking away
unscathed, telling Jake the truth, and begging
for his forgiveness.
Three days ago, I’d changed the script.
“Chloe” would die in the blast.
And I would walk away from everything and
get my freedom.
The shockwave from the explosion threw
Jake to the ground.
He scrambled to his feet and tried to charge
into the fire.
It was too late.
The bomb had gone off.
Chloe was gone.
Remembering her last smile, Jake felt like his
heart was exploding.
He dug through the wreckage, his fingers raw
and bleeding, trembling as he tried to make
sense of what happened.
く
“This can’t be happening. Chloe wouldn’t be
here.”
“I must have been wrong. It just looks like
her.”
Jake muttered to himself, desperately trying
to convince himself it wasn’t true.
Brittany tried to comfort him, reaching out to
hug him.
Jake shoved her away.
“Get away from me! If it weren’t for you, I
wouldn’t have…”
He wouldn’t have ordered the bomb to be
dropped!
く
He was the one who killed Chloe!
No… it was Brittany’s fault.
Jake stumbled to his feet, his eyes bloodshot.
Those who knew him knew this was a sign he
was ready to kill.
Jake’s hand went to his gun.
The black barrel was pointed at Brittany.
At the last second, a dart hit him in the neck,
injecting a tranquilizer.
The dart had no effect.
A second dart.
く
A third dart.
Finally, he swayed and collapsed.
Captain Sean Donovan’s face was twisted
with anger. “Get him out of here! I’m in
charge of cleaning up.”
Jake woke up two days later.
The nurse smiled as she saw his confused
look. “Mr. Foster, are you feeling okay? I
heard you did something great.
Congratulations!”
He smiled to be polite.
A moment later, the smile froze on his face.
“Great deed“?
