Since he said it, I believed him and didn’t
dwell on that matter.
I received the result of the competition and I secured the first position. I was overjoyed with the result. Despite Belle using foul means and her connections, she couldn’t stop me from winning. The first three positions of the competition were offered permanent jobs in the JW groups‘ Architect Department. James motivated me on my first day of job and said I deserved this position. I was content with my life. However, all my excitement came to an abrupt end as I found Belle also managed to secure the third position in the competition through her connections. Not just that, she even spread the rumours that I secured first position because of my

group through my husband who was friend to him.
No one in the office welcomed me and saw
me as an eyesore. In their eyes, I had stolen someone’s place and was unworthy of working with them.
I walked into the office, trying to ignore the whispers and gossips of my colleagues. But it was hard to ignore as they were so loud about it. As I sat down at my desk, Belle walked up to me on her high heels.
She greeted me with a faint smile, “Hey, Claire, how’s it going?”
I tried to ignore her, but she didn’t stop here and continued in a sarcastic voice,
“How does it feel after snatching someone’s position, Claire?”
“Do you know Sara would have claimed the first position, had you not used malicious tactics?” She added while
pointing at a girl whose desk was behind

- me. She came second in the competition. I found her staring at me with a pair of cold eyes. It was obvious that she was believing Belle’s cooked up story and taking me as a villain just like other employees.
I sighed as I glared at Belle with infuriated eyes. But, I chose not to create drama on my first day of job and hence busied myself at work. However, after getting no response from me, Belle began making snide comments about my work, my clothes, and my hair. The other colleagues joined in. They began laughing and mocking me, saying, ‘I didn’t have any standard and I’ll affect my company’s reputation by my
appearance.
I tried to suppress my tears, but it was hard. I felt like I was being torn apart by their cruel words. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse, Belle leaned in close and said in a low voice, “You think you’re so special just because you’re
married to James,” she sneered. “But you’re not. You’re just a nobody who got lucky.”

Afraid that I might not be able to hold my tears and begin crying in front of everyone, I stood up. I turned to leave but Sarah who was sitting behind me took her legs out of her desk, causing me to fall on my face. Just then Belle dropped her coffee and snacks on me, saying, “Oops, it slipped through my hands,”
The other colleagues joined in, laughing and mocking me. I was lying on the floor, my dress was wet with coffee and noodles were mixed with my curly hair. I felt like I was being attacked by a pack of wild animals and had nowhere to go. I felt so humiliated. But, I still managed myself to not cry before those bully.
Just when I thought I was going to pass out from the pain and humiliation, a cold voice sounded from behind, “What the hell is going on?”
The other colleagues immediately
scattered away, being afraid of such a loud and cold voice. I could barely open my eyes

to see James walking up to me, followed by the manager of JW Groups. He took off his coat and wrapped it around me. He picked me up in his arms and turned towards the manager. His voice shook with anger and concern as he commanded, “I want everyone to get fired who bullied my wife! Right Now.”
