Chapter 8
Daniel is the last person Lilian thinks will see her in this situation. If they hadn’t encountered each other, she was sure this person wouldn’t become involved in her life again. She was sure that Daniel would not save her.
But deep in her heart, Lilian knew that if he hadn’t come that night, she would surely be Dead by now.
But she couldn’t take it. She could clearly see Daniel’s deep pity for her, and she couldn’t accept that.
“I want to go home. If you can’t take me, let me go alone,” Lilian said calmly, her voice devoid of emotion as she straightened herself up.
She wanted to cry when she realized that she didn’t have a single item. Only that cell phone, which she almost didn’t want to hold anymore because of the anger she felt.
Daniel marched closer to the bed where she was. Lilian couldn’t bring herself to look at the man. Her gaze was fixed on the shoes in front of her, a sign that he was standing beside her.
“Your husband wanted you dead, and you still wanted to go home… to him?” Daniel muttered in disbelief.
Lilian scoffed. He couldn’t figure out what Daniel was trying to imply, since these two are basically the same. Jacob is an ass. She should have believed the signs Jacob showed her back then. She ignored every red flag she encountered each day because she believed he loved her, and she loved her husband more than anything.
She still remembered the first time he hurt her. She had accidentally broken the expensive vase Jacob bought in Italy, and he slapped her. She was unconscious for an entire day from the force of his slap, and when she woke up, she was greeted by a bouquet of red roses–her favorite. Lilian considered it an accident because that’s how she chose to see it–that’s what she wanted to believe. Jacob had only accidentally hit her when he pushed her aside as she tried to pick up the broken pieces of the vase.
She thought Jacob was just scared that she might get hurt, but it wasn’t the case. Lilian knew it wasn’t the case.

“I’ll talk to him. Maybe when he finds out that I’m alive and that I didn’t really commit suicide, he’ll feel pity for me and change his mind-”
“Lilian, he is the one who orchestrated what happened to you!”
“You don’t know that!” Lilian yelled in so much frustration and agony, Daniel knew that’s
what she wants to believe.
Anger was evident in Lilian’s eyes. They were bloodshot, devoid of any emotion except rage.
“You don’t know that because you’re just my doctor. You know nothing about our life together as a married couple!” She said firmly and pushed Daniel away from her.
Lilian hurriedly got off the bed and fixed her clothes. She cursed when blood gushed from her hand when she tried to take off the IV. She suddenly noticed Daniel’s hand pressing against her wound.
“Let’s just call the nurse. I’ll take you… to him,” Daniel said calmly, holding back the bleeding from Lilian’s wound.
Lilian’s mouth dropped open. She briefly glanced at Daniel and there she saw him holding back his annoyance. His forehead was furrowed and his jaw was clenched. The perfect shape of his jaw became even more defined because of that. Lilian still couldn’t deny that Daniel remained handsome even after a long time of not seeing each other.
And she admits that she still knows all of his expressions by heart.
“Just stay still,” Daniel ordered her.
Suddenly, Daniel bent down, so Lilian quickly turned her face away, thinking he was going to do something to her. Her entire face immediately flushed when she saw him just pressing a button there, and after a few minutes, the nurse arrived, followed by Dr. Falcon.
“I’ll take care of her, doc. I’ll call you if there’s a problem. Thank you so much.”
Lilian’s gaze turned to Daniel when she heard that. He’s currently talking to Dr. Falcon about hier discharge. The old doctor hasn’t agreed yet, but Daniel begged him.
When Lilian passed by the glass wall of an office in the hallway, she only then noticed that the dress the nurse had given her earlier seemed to be really meant for her. She was

wearing a pastel–colored dress that fit her perfectly. She used to wear clothes in this color all the time, but ever since she got married, she had only worn black. This was the first time she had worn something like this again. It felt just like before..
“Ms. Lewis, I told you that looks great on you,” said the nurse walking beside her. Behind
them, Daniel and Dr. Falcon followed closely.
“Thank you so much for lending it to me…‘
Oh,
that’s not from me, Ma’am. Dr. Martin himself bought that on the first day you were confined here in the hospital. Please take care,” the nurse said goodbye to her and turned towards the nurse station on that floor.
Lilian didn’t know how to react. That explained why the dress fit her perfectly. Did Daniel still remember her size after all this time? And why would he go out of his way to do something like this just for her?
Even Lilian couldn’t answer those questions in her mind. Her mind is too occupied with the situation.
“Where to?” Daniel’s cold question as he started the car.
Lilian cleared her throat and looked outside. It’s already evening and it’s still too cold because the winter season is approaching. She knew it wasn’t the right time to visit Jacob at his office, so she just told Daniel the address of their house.
“Damn. I didn’t know you’re this naïve and…”
“Stupid?” Lilian cut off Daniel’s words.
The interior of the car fell silent for a moment. Only the soft music coming from the stereo enveloped that silence. Lilian couldn’t help but remember everything again.
The truth is, she really doesn’t want to go back to the city and go home. She just made an excuse so that Daniel would let her go because she could see that he had no intention of letting her leave.
“What will you say to him? Take you back just like that? After what he did?” Daniel spoke again, so Lilian violently turned to look at the man.

“And so, if I’d do that, what’s it to you? He’s my husband-”
“Your husband, who wanted to kill you. Can’t you hear what I’m saying? Your husband planned everything. He was there, Lilian, because he wanted you dead! And what now? After I saved you, you’re going to go back to him because you don’t believe me?” Daniel’s patience seemed to finally snap.
Lilian couldn’t immediately respond. She averted her gaze and cursed in her mind. She knows that but she finds it hard to accept. She knows Jacob can do that to her, but once she

es up her rights as Jacob’s wife, what will happen to her? She no longer has a child to hold on to for strength. She won’t let even Jacob be taken away from her. Even if it makes her a slave, it’s fine.
“Just take me home, Dr. Martin. I’ll take this as one of my debts to you,” Lilian finally said, not speaking another word after that.
She heard Daniel’s heavy sigh before he sped up the car, and it only took about an hour before they arrived at the gate of her house.
“Leave me here. Thank you,” Lilian said as she got out of the car.
Daniel quickly followed and got out of the car as well.
“Lilian, wait-”
“Just go! Don’t come back here, and don’t ever bother me again!” she shouted loudly at Daniel, turning her back on him. Moments later, she heard the sound of a car leaving.
Her tears finally fell as she watched Daniel’s car drive away.
“She’s gone for real this time. We can get married next month.”
Lilian furrowed her brow when she heard that familiar voice. When she turned to look, her eyes widened in shock as she saw Jacob walking with Ruby, her arm linked with his, holding a suitcase.
“I can’t wait, babe. Our baby can’t wait, too. Isn’t that right, sweetie?” Ruby said, caressing her belly.
