Chapter 12
“Amora is right. You’re really here. You’re really here. What are you doing here? I thought you had already sold this townhouse?”
Jacob scanned the entire house with a grin. Ruby was by his side, holding a bottle of wine. Daniel couldn’t figure out what that was for since they weren’t even his friends.
“I have a seminar nearby, so I figured I’d stay here for a bit. How about you? What brings you here?” Daniel asked casually, turning the question back to Jacob.
His eyes narrowed at the man. When he turned to him, Daniel was even more convinced of how strong Jacob’s self–perception was. He wrapped his arm around Ruby and looked at him intently.
“We’re here to celebrate. Anyway, we just wanted to give you this. Ruby mentioned you to me–said you’re friends with her OB. I also happen to know your father, so…” Jacob paused and handed Daniel a sleek, elegant white envelope.
Daniel quietly looked inside and was confronted with a wedding invitation bearing the names Jacob and Ruby. Daniel’s brow furrowed due to the irritation he felt, but he didn’t let it show. When he lifted his gaze, his eyes caught sight of Lilian passing behind the two towards the back of the house. She briefly glanced at her ex–husband, and Daniel could clearly see the pain in his ex–girlfriend’s eyes.
Daniel gritted his teeth and nodded at Jacob.
“I see. Didn’t your wife just pass away? Why are you getting married again so soon, and next month at that?” Daniel asked bluntly, glancing at Ruby, whose smile quickly faded.
“And she’s already pregnant?”
Jacob scoffed and shook his head, seemingly unfazed by Daniel’s words, which only fueled
Daniel’s anger even more.
“Me and Lilian… Let’s just say that everything that happened between us was purely business. It’s not my fault that she died and now the woman I truly love is by my side. I know you understand my situation, Dr. Martin, because you only have a business engagement with Amora, right?” he asked arrogantly.
Regret The Wers Back
Chapter 12
Daniel clenched his teeth but maintained a calm expression. He nodded, letting out
sarcastic laugh.
“Yeah, but I wouldn’t go so far as to want her killed just to put an end to everything”
“What are you talking about?” Jacob blurted out. The intense anger was evident in his eyes, It seems Daniel has already figured out what’s on his mind.
Daniel shook his head and waved the envelope while grinning.
“Nothing. I’m just saying… be happy, and congratulations. I’ll make sure to attend, don’t worry. Is there anything else? I have somewhere to be and need to leave now,” he said coldly, turning away from the two.
Ruby’s frown deepened.
“Are you not even going to let us stay? I would like to see the back of this house,” Ruby said, causing Daniel to look back at her.
“And why is that?”
The woman smiled at him. “I just saw the beautiful scenery there; it seems relaxing especially for someone pregnant like me. Isn’t it allowed, doc?”
Daniel raised an eyebrow. He stared intently at Ruby. He couldn’t understand or even see what was so special about the woman that Jacob would choose her over Lilian. Ruby was an ordinary woman who flirted with anyone she fancied. No class. No charm. Even her looks were plain, nothing special. Unlike Lilian, whose beauty was truly captivating.
In the end, Daniel shook his head.
“As I said, I have somewhere to go. Thank you for the invitation.”
The two didn’t insist anymore and left after Daniel drove them away. When he was sure they were gone, he quickly went to the back of the house where a small hut could be seen. He saw Lilian sitting in the swing between two trees. He stared at the woman for a long time before approaching her.
“Hey.”
tallab jumped up from the hammock and quickly looked at Daniel. The latter was surprised when he saw the brief fear in Lilian’s eyes, a sign that she might have thought someone else was calling her.
“Sorry, I thought…” Lilian averted her gaze from Daniel and adjusted her position on the swing. “Have they left? Why are they looking for you?”
“Because of this…” Daniel muttered and handed Lilian the envelope.
was momentarily stunned. She didn’t know whether to look inside it or not. He knew what it was, just by the design of the paper, she knew it was an invitation.
Lilian’s heart rate slowed, and she quietly opened the envelope when she received it. Even though she already knew, she still couldn’t believe what she saw.
It’s real now, Jacob will marry Ruby in two and a half months. Because Jacob announced to the whole world that she was dead, they are free to marry even without a divorce having
taken place.
Lilian smiled sadly and returned the envelope to Daniel. She didn’t say anything. She was just staring at the setting sun in front of her and Daniel. She felt the intense seething of anger in her chest and it seemed like she was drowning again. She didn’t need to control it.
Whenever she feels this way, she knows she needs to take her medicine immediately. But at that moment, she didn’t have the strength to do it right away.
Daniel immediately noticed Lilian’s reaction, so he knelt in front of her.
“What do you want to do? Tell me anything,” Daniel said gently. For a moment, he was frightened by the void in Lilian’s eyes.
Lilian clicked her tongue. In an instant, it seemed as if there was nothing in her mind except the revenge, she wanted to exact on the two who ruined her life and killed her child.
She had no other wish back then but to improve their relationship as husband and wife, even though it seemed like everyone in his family didn’t like her. In the midst of the trials they faced, he still married her.
What Lilian didn’t know was that Jacob did that for a reason that only he knew.
Chapter 12
“Let’s…” Lilian cleared her throat and glanced at Daniel. For the first time, she noticed the sincerity in his eyes–a sincerity she had never fully appreciated until now.
Her face burned with shame, the heat creeping up as a rush of emotions surged through her heart. Just moments ago, all she felt was anger, but now, under the weight of his pleading gaze, everything felt different.
“Help me, Daniel. Help me destroy them both, and I’ll do anything you ask. Whatever it takes,” Lilian declared, her voice trembling but resolute,
Daniel’s brow furrowed at first, but then a sly grin tugged at his lips. “Really? Anything?” he smirked, his eyes gleaming with amusement.
Lilian blinked rapidly, caught off guard by his reaction. “Huh?”
“What if I want you in return for my
help? Would you agree to that?”
In that moment, regret washed over her. She wished she could take back her words, but it
was too late.
