Daniel was about to charge at the lying Jacob again, so Lilian quickly grabbed the man by the arm.
“Daniel, please don’t. Let’s leave him,” Lilian pleaded, gradually feeling fear due to Daniel’s expression.
Daniel’s eyes and ears were flushed red, and the tension in his arms was palpable. His hands trembled with rage.
“What a nice view,” Jacob sneered, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “So, you two got back together? I thought your fiancée was Amora, Dr. Martin?”
He was already standing and wiping the blood from his lips and nose because of the punch Daniel had thrown at him. The two of them turned to look at the man at the same time. Lilian’s anger towards her ex only intensified because of what she was seeing now.
“Leave now, Jacob,” Lilian firmly said while still holding Daniel’s trembling arm.
Jacob laughed and turned to Daniel.
“Is this the one helping you get revenge on me?” Jacob scoffed. “You’re really a hindrance to someone’s career, just like you were to mine when we got married.”
Lilian furrowed her brow. She glanced at Daniel, whose eyes were devoid of emotion and were just staring at Jacob.
“Is my punching your face not enough for you to stop, or do you want me to break it completely?” Daniel said coldly and frighteningly.
But it seemed that Jacob was unfazed. It seems that he became even more emboldened to speak his mind.
“Stop threatening me, fucker,” Jacob growled. “Does Lilian know you gave up the hospital that was meant for you and the position the Carters were about to give you, all for that woman?” Jacob spat out, grabbing Lilian’s attention once more.

“What?” Lilian whispered, her confusion growing as she felt Daniel’s hand tighten around her.
“Oh, looks like you’ve got some explaining to do to your fiancée, doc,” Jacob smirked. “I’ll leave you two to it.” With that, he turned and walked away, leaving the tension hanging in
the air.
Lilian’s chest slowly rose and fell due to the slowing of her heartbeat. She had already removed her hand from Daniel’s arm, but he was still holding onto her. A brief silence
veloped the space between them as Lilian felt the turmoil in her mind and conscience.
Daniel did what for her?
“Lil, let’s talk,” Daniel said calmly, slowly sliding his palm towards her hand and gripping it tightly. It seemed like he wanted to get her attention.
She still couldn’t understand. She looked at Daniel with confusion evident in her eyes. The fear was evident in his eyes, which had been absent earlier.
“I thought your promotion went through?” Lilian asked the man in confusion.
Conscience passed through Daniel’s eyes, which Lilian immediately noticed.
“I didn’t accept it,” he replied calmly.
“You didn’t accept it or you gave it up for me just like what Jacob said?” Lilian’s words stung in Daniel’s heart like bee’s bite.
Daniel didn’t respond immediately, so Lilian’s shoulders completely slumped. She didn’t need any more confirmation because that was enough for her.
She removed Daniel’s hand that was holding her and turned her back to leave, but Daniel immediately grabbed her arm. The man quickly reached her front.
“Where are you going? Let’s talk about this when we get home. It wasn’t because of you, Lilian…” Daniel’s pleading, but Lilian refused to listen to him.
“I’ll go back to the office. Let’s just talk later,” Lilian replied coldly, brushing Daniel’s hand away and quickly leaving the man behind.

Daniel could only curse himself while watching Lilian until she disappeared from his sight.
Meanwhile, the moment Lilian stepped out of the building, her eyes immediately caught sight of Ruby. She had just gotten out of the car and seemed to be looking for something. The moment their eyes met; she immediately approached her. Lilian hardened her expression and greeted Ruby without any emotion.
“Your husband was here a minute ago. Didn’t you two come here together just to threaten nje?” she shot back at Ruby, who glared at her with sharp eyes.
Lilian’s gaze fell to the woman’s belly. It’s already a bit big. If her pregnancy had continued, her belly would have been bigger by now.
Suddenly, a pang of pain and bitterness crossed Lilian’s heart at that thought.
Ruby smirked at Lilian and caressed her tummy. It seemed like she did it on purpose for
Lilian to see.
“No, I’m actually here to meet my OB–Gyne. She’s here with Dr. Martin. I have an ultrasound scheduled at her clinic, and she asked me to meet her here. You know… for my little munchkin here,” Ruby answered with a smug smile, subtly pushing out her belly. “Jacob can’t wait to see our baby…”
Lilian’s heart raced even more because of what Ruby said. Ruby knows what happened to Lilian’s child because of her attempt on her life back then, so Lilian understands what she is doing to her, which is provoking her.
And it works on Lilian. When it comes to the matter of her deceased child, it seems she is losing control.
Lilian smiled when Ruby looked at her.
“You should be more cautious when meeting me, Ruby. After what you did to my unborn child, don’t you think it’s safer not to cross me?”
Lilian glanced at Ruby’s belly again before stepping closer and whispering in her ear,
“Who knows, maybe I’ll do to you what you did to me and my child.”
When she separated from Ruby, she immediately noticed her paleness and her slight

retreat.
“If that happens, Jacob will have one less reason to leave you, so be careful in provoking me, bitch,” Lilian said coldly and frighteningly, leaving Ruby there, pale with fear.
When Lilian returned to her office, she coincidentally received a text message from Daniel’s
lawyer friend, Casper.
Casper:
美
Lil, do you and Daniel have time next week? You received a subpoena from the court.
Lilian furrowed her brow and immediately called Casper because of what she read.
“What’s it about?” She greeted to the man.
“About you threatening Ruby and her unborn child,” Carper replied. “But we can counter it I need to talk to you and Daniel first.”
“We’ll go next week, Cas. Thank you.”
Lilian slumped into her swivel chair as guilt slowly consumed her when she remembered what Daniel had done for her. She knows it was possible for him to do that, but when the man told her that he didn’t accept it because he wanted to transfer to another hospital, she
believed him.
Now, she doesn’t know how to face Daniel after what she discovered.
Meanwhile, Daniel’s heart weighed heavily as he made his way down the hospital hallway,
step his mind replaying Lilian’s reaction earlier and the way Jacob had treated her. Each seemed to add to the burden in his chest, the emotions stirring inside him, making him more restless with every passing moment.
When he reached his office, the weight only grew. There, sitting upright in the chair, was his unexpected visitor. Amora. Her presence hit him like a jolt, and before he could process it fully, she stood up quickly, her movements urgent. Without warning, she closed the distance between them and kissed him, a forceful and unexpected gesture. The moment was punctuated by a sharp click–the unmistakable sound of a camera capturing the scene.
