Chapter 7:
LYRA
Ragnulf‘ s voice reverberated through the dining hall, carrying an aura of relentless power. Behind him was his Beta, who was frowning at the situation already.
Everyone froze, turning to look at Ragnulf in shock, then the man who had his hand curled around Jeanette’s wrist let her go immediately and bowed to my husband.
“Alpha.
Jeanette who hadn’t even been manhandled yet began to wail uncontrollably. “My Alpha, see what he did to me!”
Ragnulf saw her lightly bruised arm and let out a ripping growl against his Gamma. So I decided to take charge of the situation.
“Why are you complaining? Weren’t you being disrespectful earlier today?” I asked

Chapter 7:
Jeanettte, and she practically crossed her arms and rolled her eyes at me in front of
everyone.
Thankfully, I wasn’t the only one who saw the disrespect because the room gasped at her nonchalant behaviour.
“Did you just roll your eyes at me?” I asked in awe.
Jeanette seemed to realize what she had done because she looked to my husband as if silently seeking support.
“I AM TALKING TO YOU!” I yelled using my Luna authority which when heard, forces anyone into a state of fear and reverence. Jeanette whimpered and whine, bowing her head as the force of my authority forced her to submit.
“Lyra-” Ragnulf began but I didn’t want to listen nor hear what he had to say. Instead, I turned to the guards nearby.
“I’m going to show you why
disrespecting me is a bad idea.” I snarled

before my eyes slid to the guards in the distance. “Seize her.”
Immediately, Jeanette ran behind Ragnulf, whimpering and clinging to his shirt as the guards approached her but then they stopped half–way seeing my husband raise a hand to stop them.
I wasn‘ t appalled, but I couldn’t help but feel a stinging disappointment in him.
“Lyra.” He turned to me. “You can see she’s pregnant and therefore fragile. Why would you want her in harm’s way?‘
A terrible silence fell on the dining hall and while it went on, Ragnulf and I stared into each other’s eyes. In his gaze, I found anger and shame.
I wonder what he sees in mine.
“Did you see her disrespect?”
Ragnulf exhaled hard as if I wore him down. “I know my love but she’s Enzo’s sister and she’s literally

pregnant. You should understand that pregnant women tend to have mood swings. You would know if you had ever been pregnant before.”
This time, I was appalled, and I couldn’t believe my ears.
The Gamma‘ s brows furrowed as he exchanged subtle looks with his wife and it was becoming obvious to everyone that something else was going on.
Tears burned the back of my eyes, especially as Jeanette smirked behind him.
“Is that so?” My voice trembled and Ragnulf’s face dawned with the realization. that he just messed up.
“My Darling, I didn‘ t-”
“It’s fine!” I cut him off, and sat down, grabbing a glass of wine. “Obviously, you have a strong affection for this girl, that’s why you‘ re working overtime to defend her. Looking to replace me, Ragnulf?” I asked, taking a sip while pinning him with

Ragnulf snarled in reply, stepping away from Jeanette’s clingy hold and ordering his Beta to take her away. From Jeanette‘ s frown, I could tell that she was displeased, but when our eyes met, she planted on a triumphant smile and sauntered out of the
room.
People around exchanged subtle looks as Ragnulf took his seat and lunch began.
Curious to know what they were thinking, I touched the locket around my neck, and immediately began to hear them as they mindlinked each other.
“I think the Alpha is cheating on our dear Luna.”
“Jeanette is definitely having an affair with the Alpha. That’s why she has so much confidence.”
“Who knows if the baby belongs to Alpha Ragnulf and he is keeping it quiet from our barren Luna?”

“Poor lady, I pray the Moon Goddess opens her womb.”
I removed my hand from the locket, feeling my hand shake, as all the voices disappeared. My heart hammered as my throat constricted with the urge to cry, Instead, I swallowed down my devastation and picked a spoon.
Suddenly, Ragnulf pushed his seat back and his face became serious. Then he turned to me, “Rogues are approaching the borders of various packs. An Alpha just requested my help. I’ll be gone for some days.”
He left and I knew this time he was
speaking the truth, but still, a small part of me hoped that as he went, he’d never
return.
