If it hadn’t been for seeing this tiny dress now, I might have forgotten about it entirely.
When I first found out I was pregnant, there was a brief spell of happiness between Spencer and me for once. During that time, he even went shopping with me, and we picked out this dress together.
He said, “I hope it’s a girl who’s quiet and docile.”
That was why we chose pink.
Later, when I lost the baby, I searched everywhere for that dress but couldn’t find it. Never would I have guessed that Spencer had it all along.
A strange sense of bewilderment washed over me. Why had he hidden it?
The room was thick with the stench of alcohol. Spencer had drunk himself into oblivion, passing out from the pain in his stomach, only to wake up and start drinking all over again.
Once, after he woke up, he clutched his stomach and muttered my name. “Bethany Frodo, get me my stomach medicine.”
He always used my full name and was never affectionate with me like he was with Yunice. He would call her “Yunice” with gentle fondness.
The room remained silent. Only then did he seem to remember that I was dead.
He staggered to his feet and rummaged through the cabinets to search for the medical kit, but it was nowhere to be found.
In the past, whenever he was in pain, I was always there, handing him what he needed and tending to him carefully.
But now, without me, he collapsed onto the floor like a shell of a man. He suddenly raised his hands to cover his face.
I thought I was imagining things, but there seemed to be something glistening between his fingers.
:
A week later, Yunice arrived.
She had someone break open the door, and the overwhelming smell of alcohol hit her, making her cover her mouth to keep from gagging.
Seeing Spencer sprawled on the floor like a heap of broken glass, she was dumbstruck. ” Spencer, have you lost your mind?!”
Slowly, he lifted his head, squinting against the blinding sunlight streaming through the

doorway. For a brief moment, he seemed dazed. Then, he muttered, “Bethany…”
Even I was shocked that he actually recognized her as me, not to mention Yunice.
She flew into a rage immediately. She slapped him hard across the face and snapped, ” Snap out of it and look at who I am! How dare you say that wretched woman’s name in front of me? She stole my face and took my life, and now you, too, have been deceived by her?”
Spencer lay there, his face flushed red and his body feverish. However, Yunice didn’t notice as she was too consumed by her anger.
“Let me tell you, Spencer! Bethany got exactly what she deserved! A fake like her belongs in hell, where she can be skinned, and her soul torn to pieces.”
She spat, emphasizing each word, “And you, Spencer! Don’t think that just because I agreed to marry you, I’ve forgiven you. I will never forget that you humiliated me with an imposter. Bet it felt great, didn’t it, sleeping with that filthy woman?”
Her voice dripped with venom, and her eyes burned with contempt.
She assumed he would stay silent and let her tirade run its course, but the next moment, he staggered to his feet. He fixed his bloodshot eyes on her, causing her to stop her mid-
sentence.
It was a look of unbridled menace, one she had never seen before.
“W–What are you doing?” Her voice quivered.
“Yunice.” His voice was chillingly calm. “Do you know where my stomach medicine is?”
She was stunned, and then she frowned and said in exasperation, “What’s this nonsense about stomach medicine? How would I know where you keep it? Can’t you find it by yourself?”
He let out a cold laugh. “Get out.”
Yunice’s jaw dropped. “Did you just tell me to leave? Spencer, are you actually telling me to get out?”
In her fury, she hurled her phone at him. It hit him hard, and blood began trickling from his
forehead.
He didn’t flinch but simply stared back at her with a blank face.
Then, out of nowhere, she laughed. “Tell me, Spencer. When exactly did you fall in love with that woman?”
