Darrell paused for a moment, his tone slightly softer.
“We both have faults in this matter. Just admit that I’m wrong, okay? Where are you? I’ll come pick you up.”
“We’ll go back to how we used to be. I‘ 11 accompany you to the hospital, and we‘ 11 have children.”
I simply shrugged off his words. There’s a clear gap between us in understanding.
I hung up and blocked him again.
Soon after, Holly sent me a series of messages from a small account she had added during school.
“Old woman, you can’t compete with me, so just step aside. Let me tell you the truth
in Darrell’s heart, you‘ re nothing but mosquito blood, and I’m his white rose.”

“I’m not like you. You couldn’t give birth after marrying into the Thornton family.
I’m two months pregnant. Even if you stay Mrs. Thornton without a divorce,
the child I have will inherit the family property!”
“An old woman without children–how do you plan to fight me for the family assets?”
“If you beg me in desperation, I might consider giving you two thousand a month for living expenses.”
I let out a hollow laugh.
Who needs Thornton‘ s petty money?
The pocket money my mother gives me alone is more than enough to fund a Thornton family project.
If I wasn‘ t hesitant to let go of the eight years I had wholeheartedly given to him, how could I bear to waste more time?
“Then I wish you success.”

I swiftly deleted and blocked the small
account.
Finally, my world settled into peace.
My mother came downstairs to remind me the next morning.
“Tomorrow, the cooperation with Butler Group‘ s president will be handed over to you. You’ve been a housewife for years, but you haven’t forgotten how to negotiate business, right?”
I raised an eyebrow, took out a thick stack of documents, and smiled confidently.
“The early bird catches the worm. I‘ ve been preparing for this deal diligently. Just watch- I‘ m 80% sure I can secure this cooperation.”
Since leaving Darrell, my life truly began
anew.
I booked a private room at Double Yolk Restaurant, one of the top dining spots in
town.

Meeting Colin Gilbert, the general manager
of Butler Group, to discuss the details was set for the evening.
“Mr. Wood, I’ve heard a lot about you.”
“Mr. Gilbert, your name is widely respected. Taking the helm of Butler Group at such a young age is truly impressive. I look forward to learning from you.”
Colin is only thirty, radiating the confidence of a successful young executive. He adjusted his gold–rimmed glasses and smiled with grace and seriousness.
“Mr. Wood, Mr. Wood has already mentioned this cooperation to me. You see…” Just as I was about to pull out the speech I had carefully prepared over the past few days, I caught a glimpse of someone I shouldn’t have seen. Out of the
corner of my eye, I saw Darrell–his expression cold, his thin lips pressed into a straight line. His eyes burned with intensity, as if they could pierce through me at any moment. He strode forward, his

movements sharp and deliberate, and flicked the wine glass on the table. It shattered, glass scattering across the floor. Colin, standing nearby, hadn’t fully processed the scene. Instinctively, he stepped forward to shield me from the flying shards.
“Alex, you‘ re really brave. You‘ ve already found another partner before I even agreed to divorce?”
“I suspect you lied about being pregnant, but you were already involved with someone else long before that, weren’t you?”
I gave Colin a grateful nod, then turned to Darrell, my expression hardening as I spoke coldly.
“What are you ranting about? We have no relationship anymore. The only connection we share now is through the courts!”
“My relationships are none of your business,” I continued sharply. “If you‘ re

so concerned, why don‘ t you take care of Holly s child instead?”
At the mention of “child,” Darrell’s face froze. A flicker of panic crossed his
features, and his eyes betrayed his
uncertainty.
