Chapter 151 A Taste of Their Own Medicine

After Jennifer finished speaking, she watched Daniel’s face turn a sickly shade of green.
A giggle threatened to erupt, shaking her stomach, but she held it in with an effort.
Sarah, hovering nearby, stepped forward and tugged at Daniel’s arm. “Daniel.”
But this time, Daniel shrugged her off. If Sarah hadn’t given him that tainted song, he wouldn’t be in this
mess.
Sarah, sensing the shift in his attitude, felt a flicker of panic.
She turned to Jennifer. “Jennifer,” she said, “I know you’ve always resented me. You think your brothers like me more than you. But you don’t have to drive a wedge between me and Daniel!”
“Drive a wedge?” Jennifer echoed. “Is that what you

call it? If you care so much about him, why don’t you take the fall for him? After all, he’s got his fancy career,
and you’re still nobody. Your sacrifice wouldn’t even make a dent.”
After Jennifer’s rebuke, Sarah fell silent.
“What’s with the silent treatment?” Jennifer pressed sharply. “Weren’t you all noble and self–sacrificing just a second ago? The moment actual consequences are involved, the generosity vanishes, huh?”
Tears welled in Sarah’s eyes. “No,” she whispered.
“Then the two of you can hash it out tonight,” Jennifer declared. “Let me know your decision tomorrow. I’ll pretend I didn’t hear whatever nonsense my dear brother spouted earlier.”
She smiled at Sarah, “I’m giving you the chance to take his place. He’s been so good to you. It would be a shame to be ungrateful.”
After delivering her cutting remarks, Jennifer turned on her heel and exited the cafe with a confident stride.
Reflecting on the hypocrisy and awkwardness of

“Jennifer!”
Asher hurried after her. “About this…”

“No,” Jennifer interrupted. “There’s no other way. One of them takes the blame. End of story.”
Her voice was firm, allowing no room for argument.
Asher looked at his sister with a flicker of surprise in his eyes. “Jennifer,” he said softly, “you’ve really changed.”
“For the better,” she retorted. “Prettier, smarter, and stronger.”
She glanced back at the cafe. “Don’t bother trying to avoid this, Asher. Go back and play the responsible older sibling. Blood is thicker than water, and all that jazz.”
The sarcasm dripped from her voice as she turned and walked away.

Chapter 151 A Taste of Their Own Medicine Asher watched her go, the realization hitting him that his sister was truly different.
Jennifer had evolved into a figure of confidence and independence, no longer clinging to the Hargreaves family or seeking validation from him.
Now, he found himself unexpectedly missing the sister who once revolved around him.
Jennifer hailed a cab and headed back to King Villa.
Her good mood persisted, leading her down to Timothy’s wine cellar in the basement.
She selected a bottle of red wine at random, popped the cork, and poured herself a glass.
Music filled the air from her phone as she danced and drank, alone but content.
It was the happiest moment of her life.
A few hours later, Timothy returned home from work, his gaze sweeping the room habitually.

“She’s home early,” he commented, surprised.
“Yes.”
Timothy went upstairs. The bedroom was empty, as was the study.
He descended the stairs again, checking the gym, but she wasn’t there either.
“Where’s Jennifer?” he asked a passing servant.
“I believe she’s in the wine cellar, Mr. Clark.”
Wine cellar?
Timothy maneuvered his wheelchair towards the basement. As he opened the door, the faint strains of music and the unmistakable aroma of wine reached him.
He found Jennifer sitting on the floor with a half–empty bottle of wine clutched in her hand, humming along to the music.

He wheeled closer, his eyes falling on the array of empty bottles on the table.
Impressive. His collection had been raided.
He thought, “This woman could hold her liquor.”

As he approached, Jennifer looked up, a wide smile spreading across her face. “Timothy!” she exclaimed. “You’re home! I, uh, might have sampled some of your wine.”
“Sampled?”
Timothy glanced at the cluster of empty bottles littering the table. “Why have you drunk so much?”
“Because I’m happy,” she declared.
She attempted to stand, only to stumble slightly. She landed against him, settling into his lap.
Instinctively, he wrapped his arms around her waist, preventing her from falling to the floor.
She was definitely tipsy.

He looked down at her. “And what has you so happy?”
“Remember this morning?” she slurred slightly. “You said I should settle things with them before it goes to court, but with conditions, right? Well, I went to see them this afternoon and laid down the law.”
“What conditions?” he asked.
“I told them it was either Daniel or Sarah,” she explained, giggling. “One of them takes all the blame. But, my dear brother, he loves to play the victim. He kept saying we’re a family, so I should just let Sarah off the hook. So, I gave him a taste of his own medicine.”
She burst into laughter again. “You should have seen his face! He turned every shade of green!”
Timothy’s gaze dropped to meet her flushed, inebriated face. “Is this really enough to make you this happy?”
“Totally!” she exclaimed. “All thanks to you.”
And with that, she kissed him.
