Chapter 162 Testing
After Jennifer finished speaking, she looked up at Timothy.
Timothy instinctively asked, “So, in your eyes, it’s all just an act?”

“Yes. Haven’t you always said that? Why can’t I say it
now?”
Jennifer shot back.
Timothy withdrew his gaze, murmuring, “You’re right.”
He turned his head to gaze out the window, ostensibly to take in the passing scenery, but his eyes were actually fixed on the reflection in the glass.
He observed her slender silhouette and replayed the moment when she had fiercely stood up for him.
Despite his calm exterior, his heart stirred
uncomfortably.

He lowered his gaze to his immobile legs and wore a self–deprecating smirk.

He thought, “No decent girl would truly want a guy like me, bound to a wheelchair.”
There were moments when he couldn’t stand the sight of his own legs, seeing them atrophy with each passing day!
Back at King Villa, the silence between them was palpable as they entered the living room.
Sharon, always with a sunny disposition, came over with some soup. “Here’s some soup to keep you both strong, Mr. and Mrs. Clark. Please drink it.”
She had gotten wind of last night’s events in the wine cellar between Timothy and Jennifer, so she was positively thrilled to see their relationship advancing.
When Jennifer caught sight of Sharon’s knowing expression, she realized that Sharon likely knew all about last night’s escapades in the wine cellar.
She awkwardly accepted the soup, downing it quickly before escaping upstairs.

Sharon turned to Timothy with a hopeful smile, “Mr. Clark, your grandmother is thrilled, hoping for a grandchild soon.”
Timothy, sipping his soup, replied coolly, “That’s not solely my decision.”
He then proceeded to the bedroom, only to discover that Jennifer had already slipped into the bathroom fr a shower.
He waited outside with a book in hand, but the sound of running water from the bathroom kept pulling his thoughts back to the steamy encounter of the previous night.
The book lay open before him, yet for the longest time, he didn’t turn a single page.
He was in a daze.
Not long after, Jennifer emerged from the bathroom and spotted Timothy seated by the window. “I’m all good now,” she announced.
Timothy set the book aside, his gaze lingering on her

until she settled back onto the sofa.
He blurted out, “Why not sleep on the bed?”
“Hey, about last night, I’ve given it some thought, and honestly, it was an accident, you know? No need to overthink it. How about we just stick to being us, like always?”
ennifer lounged on the sofa as she turned to her side, her back presented to him.
Her thoughts were a whirl.
Timothy truly was a gem of a man, but without that twist of fate, their paths would have never crossed, and she certainly wouldn’t be wearing his ring, poised to become his fiancée.
Their worlds were too different.
Looking ahead, when his leg was fully recovered, his family was bound to choose a bride from the upper echelons, a woman whose family would be as prestigious as his.
Jennifer, hailing from a less illustrious background,

felt somewhat unworthy of standing beside him in the eyes of society.
While her family boasted wealth, they still lagged significantly behind the towering prestige of his family.
By what measure could her family possibly stand against the Clark family, given that her family didn’t even measure up to the family of Lilian?
Timothy watched her turn back. With a visible effort to restrain his emotions, he averted his eyes and made his way to the bathroom.
The next morning, Jennifer woke with shadows under her eyes, evidence of her restless night.
Upon rising, she discovered that Timothy had already bathed and donned fresh attire.
Almost on instinct, she greeted him with a question, “Why are you up so early?”
He gave a slight nod, maneuvered his wheelchair around, and made his exit.
She slowly lowered her hand, which had paused

mid–air, feeling as though everything had reset to how
it once was.
But this way was fine.
At the very least, the return to their previous dynamic was perhaps for the best.
Jennifer headed directly to the school for her lecture,
ly to notice that Sarah was absent, who was likely too mortified to show up after the song incident.
After all, Sarah had bragged quite a bit about that song.
It was now crystal clear that the song Sarah had claimed as her own was, in fact, not her creation at all.
During class, a message from Jason popped up.
Jason: [Ms. Hargreaves, I deeply regret the events of yesterday’s banquet. Could you please grant me an opportunity to set things right?]
Jennifer: [Actually, I’m the one who should apologize for spoiling your celebration party!]

Jennifer was well aware that her actions would ensure Jason’s celebration party could not possibly go on as planned.
Jason: [Without you, there’s no point in having a celebration. How about we grab coffee later at the place near your school?]
Jennifer: [Good.]
Jennifer agreed.
She also owed Jason an explanation for the events of the previous night.
After all, they were bound to collaborate in the future.
After her lecture concluded, Jennifer made her way to the coffee shop.
However, upon entering the private room, she was surprised to find someone else there alongside Jason.
It was Lilian here.
Confusion clouded Jennifer’s expression as she stepped into the unexpected scene.
