Jennifer hadn’t expected to see Lilian at the café, and her surprise was clear.
Jason stood up to greet her warmly. “Ms. Hargreaves, thanks for coming. What would you like to drink?”
“Anything’s fine, but after last night, I think I’ll keep my hands free,” Jennifer quipped, hinting at the cake incident last night.
Who knew if coffee might be the next thing thrown?
Jason quickly explained, “I wanted to clear up any misunderstandings, Ms. Hargreaves. This meeting is to smooth things over.”

Just last night, Lilian had been the epitome of arrogance and dominance at the banquet, yet here she was today, offering an apology!
It was eerily strange!
Jason turned his gaze towards Jennifer. “Ms. Hargreaves, Lilian can be a bit haughty, but her family has addressed her behavior after last night’s events. I hope both you and Mr. Clark can look past this.”
“I see,” Jennifer responded, understanding this was more about Timothy’s influence than her own standing.
She was acutely aware that she didn’t possess the clout to warrant an apology from the daughter of a jewelry magnate!
With Lilian’s half–hearted apology out of the way, Jennifer remarked, “Forget it. I had my moment, too. Let’s call it even.”

Vivian didn’t mince words, “Kelly, take a good look at the design your group submitted. Does it even resemble the blueprint?
“Not only have you failed to produce a decent design, but you haven’t even taken the preparation seriously! So, tell me, what’s the point of you staying here with me?”
Kelly, struggling to maintain composure, promised, “I’ll fix it, Ms. Hoover. I swear.”
Sarah pleaded earnestly, “Ms. Hoover, please, give us one more chance.”
“Remember what you said when Jennifer messed up? You were all for kicking her to the curb. Now that the shoe’s on your foot, you’re begging for a second chance?”
Sarah was suddenly at a loss for words.
Kelly, with a defiant tilt to her chin, muttered under her breath, “Can Jennifer even hold a candle to us?”
“You’re so full of yourself! What you’ve turned in is nothing but trash, so there’s no point in you sticking around on this project. Let Jennifer and her team take over. Maybe you could learn a thing or two from them!”

At that very moment, Jennifer stepped into the studio just in time to catch the unfolding drama.

She resolved silently that Jennifer wouldn’t have an easy ride.
