Chapter 165 Regret

Kelly scoffed with disdain, “You’re no singer, Jennifer. What business do you have at an award show? You think they’ll hand you a trophy?”
“They won’t, but they’ll be giving one to a singer I admire. And as for some people’s favorites, well, they might not be so lucky,” Jennifer shot back.
This time, the crown for best male singer was undeniably going to Jason instead of Daniel.
She had waited far too long for this moment.
Sarah was shocked. “You’re that sure Daniel won’t win Best Singer?”
“Thanks to you, the copycat queen!” Jennifer retorted sharply. “You’ve dragged him down. Don’t you feel even a shred of guilt?”
Sarah’s voice trembled with feigned hurt, “Jennifer, plagiarism isn’t what you think.”
Kelly jumped to her defense. “Exactly, Jennifer. You’re throwing your weight around with the Clark family’s power, and now you’re here gloating. That’s too much.”
“If I really used the Clark family’s influence, you’d be on your knees polishing my shoes right now.”

Jennifer’s gaze was icy with contempt.

Kelly seethed, but she bit her tongue. The weight of the Clark family’s influence hung over her like a shadow, silencing any harsh words she might have wanted to spit out. She knew all too well the cost of crossing them was more than she could bear.
Jennifer left with her bag in hand.
Kelly muttered bitterly, “Let’s see how long she can keep this up. The Clark family will tire of her soon enough!”
Sarah reminded Kelly cautiously, “It’s good you know why Jennifer and Timothy get engaged. But keep it under wraps, okay? Don’t go blabbing.”
She clung to the belief that Jennifer’s relationship with Timothy was on borrowed time.
She mulled over the situation and stepped out of the studio as she fished out her cell phone from her purse. With a determined swipe, she dialed Daniel. “Hey, Daniel, is tonight the big night for the Best Singer Award Ceremony?”
Sarah thought, “Why hadn’t Daniel even mentioned it?
Didn’t he promise he’d take me to the awards ceremony?”
Daniel’s reply was frosty, “Yes, tonight.”
“You promised to take me there, remember?”

Daniel felt upset. “What do you plan on doing there? Don’t you think we’ve had enough embarrassment already?”
He was not even planning to go himself!
It was just too damn embarrassing. The last thing he wanted wast to see Jason with that smug grin of his.
“Daniel, this mess is on me. But I truly believe in your talent. You deserve that award, Jason’s song just hit the airwaves, and it’s nothing special, really!”
“But the song I sang was penned by Jennifer, not you. If anyone deserves to be there, it’s her.”
Daniel reflected. His past behavior toward Jennifer had been unfair.
In truth, Daniel recognized he shouldn’t have harbored such strong opinions about Jennifer. Yet, he had a habit of taking Sarah’s words to heart, which clouded his judgment. This led to a series of misunderstandings with Jennifer, stretching their relationship thinner with each passing day.
Had it not been for Sarah’s meddling, Jennifer would never have stormed out in a blaze of fury.
Besides, Jennifer would keep penning those incredible songs for him, and there was no way anyone was going to steal her away!
But now, he lost everything.

When Sarah absorbed his words, her expression soured. The incident from last time had shifted something fundamental between them; Daniel’s demeanor towards her was markedly
different now.
“This is all because of that wretched Jennifer!” Sarah thought.
Her voice cracked with emotion, “Daniel, I know I’m not as gifted as Jennifer. I tried so hard to help you, but I never thought I’d end up making things worse. I’m really sorry.”
Daniel, impatient, cut her off, “It’s in the past. I’m hanging up if nothing necessary.”
“Daniel, did you catch wind that Jennifer’s going to be at the award ceremony tonight?”
“She is?”
Interest piqued, Daniel believed Jennifer must be there for
Jason.
His face underwent a noticeable transformation. He knew he had to navigate a path to smooth over the rough edges between Jennifer and him.
He hung up the phone directly.
Sarah stared at her now silent phone. A wave of frustration washed over her, yet her resolve hardened. No matter what, she was determined to attend.

With a swift motion, she dialed Asher. “Asher, I’ve got something you need to hear. It’s about Jennifer.”

A flare of indignation rose within her. “Why is it okay for Jennifer to go, but I’m being held back?” she questioned silently.
Tennifer headed straight for the award ceremony, clutching the invitation letter that Jason had personally sent her.
Upon entering the venue, she made her way to exchange pleasantries with Jesse.
Jesse felt pleased. “Hello, everyone, allow me to introduce Jennifer Hargreaves. Weren’t you all just asking for the latest? Well, here she is, in the flesh.”
“Ms. Hargreaves, you’re remarkably young, yet your talent is undeniable. The younger generation is indeed formidable, bringing fresh waves of innovation and brilliance.”
“Ms. Hargreaves, would you have the time to consider a collaboration with us? I assure you, the terms we offer are quite favorable.
Several musicians approached Jennifer and requested her contact information, hoping to forge connections or perhaps collaborate in the future.
Jennifer did not decline. With a polite smile, she engaged in the

exchange of contact details.
From a discreet vantage point, Daniel observed his sister. Jennifer seemed transformed.
A pang of regret hit him as he reflected, “If only I hadn’t let things sour with Jennifer, it would be me in the spotlight, basking in envy, not Jason.”
The wheels of regret spun faster in his mind, each thought deepening his remorse.
He approached with a glass of liquor.
Jennifer was in the midst of a lively conversation when her attention was drawn by someone approaching.

She turned, her eyes meeting those of Daniel. Instantly, the bright smile that had adorned her face moments ago dimmed significantly.
She turned away, continuing her conversation, leaving Daniel to linger awkwardly.
The surrounding attendees also notice Daniel. Whispers and knowing looks were exchanged; they were all aware of the public statement Daniel had made earlier. The consensus was clear: there had been a falling out between the siblings.
Daniel stood there, somewhat dazed. It was evident to all that he had arrived with some words to share with Jennifer.

However, Jennifer clearly had no desire to engage with Daniel.
Finally, unable to hold back any longer, Daniel approached Jennifer. “Congratulations, you’ve really made it this far,” he said.
“Thank you. It’s refreshing to hear that from you,” Jennifer replied.
After all, in his perspective, her achievements were often seen as a byproduct of the Hargreaves family’s support rather than her
An merit.
But now, the dynamics had shifted.
Indeed, reality had a harsh way of awakening those who were not in their right mind.
The air grew thick with tension.
Jesse finally intervened, “Yes, congratulations indeed, Ms. Hargreaves.”
Someone nearby chatted with Daniel, “Congratulations, Mr. Hargreaves! You’ve got yourself one heck of a talented sister. I’d give anything for a sibling like that.”
Another echoed, “Oh, to have a sister as incredible as yours, I’m genuinely green with envy!”
When Daniel caught wind of those words, his face clouded over. To him, they rang with a sharp edge of sarcasm.

Swallowing his irritation along with the champagne in his glass, he called out, “Jennifer, could you come over here for a sec? There’s something I need to talk to you about.”
“I’m tied up at the moment. Let’s catch up later when we’ve got some free time, okay?”
Jennifer refused directly.
She felt a chasm between them, believing there was little left to say to Daniel.
