Timothy stood by the window on the second floor, looking at the car parked by the roadside.
The two men exchanged a glance.
Timothy noticed that Jason’s gaze was different this time.
It suggested that he had feelings for Jennifer.
From expressions, they could read each other’s minds.
Timothy wheeled away from the window.
Jason kept staring at the second floor until the bedroom light
came on.
He laughed at himself for doing meaningless things like that.
Although he admired Jennifer, she was engaged, and he couldn’t afford to mess with the Clark family.
Jason drove away, the engine roaring.
When Jennifer returned to the living room, she rubbed her stomach, realizing she hadn’t eaten yet.
At the awards ceremony, there was food, but she was too busy watching the Hargreaves family’s drama and only had drinks.
It was no longer dinner time.
Jennifer felt embarrassed to say she was hungry, so she sneaked into the kitchen to see if there was anything to eat.
She found only ingredients. There were no leftovers in the fridge.
“What are you doing there? Playing the little mouse?”
Jennifer jumped, startled. Seeing Timothy, she breathed a sigh GF relief.
She quickly pulled him into the kitchen. “Be quiet, or someone might see us.”
Timothy was confused.
But he didn’t say anything.
He glanced around the kitchen. “Didn’t eat enough on your date?”
“What date?” Jennifer replied, rummaging through the ingredients.
She didn’t notice Timothy’s displeasure.
He huffed, “Going out with this stingy man who doesn’t even feed you properly, and then coming back to raid my kitchen?”

Jennifer finally noticed something was off.
She looked up and saw Timothy glaring at her.
He seemed to be jealous.
Timothy quickly looked away, feigning indifference.

He said, “Let me remind you. We’re engaged. If people find out you’re dating someone else, it will cause trouble.”
ennifer calmed down at his formal tone.
She had overthought.
Timothy wouldn’t be jealous because he didn’t like her.
“I know, you don’t need to worry about that,” Jennifer replied.
Timothy frowned, wondering what she meant by that.
He wondered if she was really dating Jason.
No wonder she had pleaded for him to keep the endorsement deal.
Jennifer started cooking pasta and turned to Timothy. “Do you want some?”
He left in a huff.
His reaction confused her.

She didn’t think she had done anything wrong.
But he acted as if she had cheated on him.
They were just in a contractual relationship and had agreed not to interfere with each other’s private lives.
Jennifer looked at the pasta, her appetite suddenly gone.
After finishing her meal, she left the kitchen and found Ryan and Sharon waiting outside. She felt embarrassed. “When did you get here?”
Ryan asked, “Mrs. Clark, do you find our cooking not to your liking? You can tell us; there’s no need to humiliate us like this.”
Jennifer was taken aback. “I never said that.”
Sharon chimed in, “Mrs. Clark, you are the lady of the house. How can we let you cook for yourself?”
“I came back late and didn’t want to bother you,” Jennifer explained.
She didn’t want to trouble Sharon, who was like an elder to her.
Sharon said, “Mrs. Clark, we know you are kind–hearted, but this is our job. If you do it all, we’ll be out of work.”
Jennifer hadn’t thought of that.

Ryan grumbled, “Mrs. Clark, didn’t you learn anything from the Hargreaves family?”
The Hargreaves family was wealthy and respected, yet Jennifer didn’t act like a typical rich girl.
Jennifer smiled bitterly, “At home, I cooked for my brothers. They preferred my cooking.”
She had tried so hard to please them, only to end up like a maid.
I was laughable.
No one told her that cooking and chores weren’t her job. They had enjoyed her efforts without a second thought.
Sharon said sadly, “Mrs. Clark, what kind of life did you have?”
“It’s all in the past,” Jennifer said. “By the way, have you been waiting here the whole time?”
Sharon nodded. “It’s Mr. Clark’s order.”
She wondered what Timothy had told them.
