Chapter 197 She Won the Bet
Jennifer’s attitude was very firm.
She opened the office door and walked out without a second glance.
Even if it meant the situation would turn into a no–win, she wouldn’t let this media company get away unscathed.
Behind the scenes, Mary had always been the one manipulating the media, spreading rumors, first about Timothy, and now it was her turn.
She knew Mary would not want to make enemies of the powerful figures in those backup files.
Jennifer deliberately stalled in front of the elevator for a moment.
Before long, she heard Grayson’s anxious voice from behind her. “Ms. Hargreaves, please wait! We can work something out. Why are you in such a rush to leave? Stay for another cup of coffee?”
Jennifer didn’t respond, but inside, she was relieved.
Grayson hurried over and stood next to Jennifer. “Alright, I can agree to your terms.”
Jennifer maintained a cold expression. “The statement needs to

be issued tonight.”
“Fine, but how can I be sure you don’t have backups?”

After all, they were all in the same industry, and everyone wast wary about keeping copies of sensitive documents,
“Of course, I have backups. What if you take the USB drive and later go back on your word?”
Jennifer smiled, staring at Grayson. “But I have no personal grudge against you. I don’t need to expose these files, but if you continue fabricating news to smear me and Timothy, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
The elevator doors opened, and Jennifer stepped inside calmly.
Grayson could only offer a forced smile. “Ms. Hargreaves, take
care.”
As the elevator doors closed, Jennifer finally let out a breath. She’d won this round.
At least the issue was settled for now.
The negative news about Timothy in the past had mostly been spread by this media company or at least fueled behind the

Now, Jennifer had solved the problem once and for all. After

this, the company would think twice before fabricating stories about Timothy again.
After everything was done, Jennifer felt a sense of satisfaction as she left the building.
She checked the time; it was getting late, and suddenly, she realized she didn’t have a place to go.
She didn’t want to return to Hargreaves Villa, nor to King Villa, because she didn’t know how to face Timothy.
Standing alone outside, she hesitated for a moment before finally deciding to take a taxi back to King Villa.
She figured that if she was going to call off the engagement, she and Timothy should go together to the Clark Manor to explain things to Angelina.
While in the car, Jennifer received a call from Millie.
“Jennifer, what happened to the promise you made to me yesterday? After just one night, you’re already out there spending the night with another man. What about the reputation of the Clark family?”
Millie’s voice was full of anger.
“The news reports are fake. I was at the studio all night,” Jennifer replied calmly.
“You were in the studio? That means you didn’t go home last

night. You never returned. Who can vouch for you? Were you really in the studio, or were you with some other man at a hotel?”
Jennifer could no longer tolerate Millie’s groundless accusations.
“If there’s no evidence, why are you so sure I wasn’t at the studio but instead out with another man?”
“The reporters got pictures. What do you mean there’s no evidence?”
Millie retorted, clearly upset. “And don’t forget, I warned you last time not to go to the studio, but you didn’t listen.”
“Since you insist on thinking that way, there’s nothing more I can say. Actually, Timothy and I have already decided to break off the engagement. After that, I’ll have no ties to the Clark family, so you won’t have to be so angry anymore.”
Since Timothy agreed, there was no need to hide the truth
anymore.
“Call off the engagement? And Timothy agreed?”
Millie’s tone turned cold, and she calmed down. She felt calling off the engagement might not be a good thing.
After all, everyone had mocked Timothy for his supposed health issues, claiming he was infertile.

Now, with Jennifer embroiled in an affair scandal if she broke off the engagement so quickly, it would only reinforce the rumors about Timothy’s inability to have children.
Millie’s voice grew even colder. “What do you take the Clark family for? The decision to break off the engagement isn’t yours To make.”
Millie hung up abruptly.
nnifer rubbed her temples, a bitter smile on her lips.
Millie was right. The control over this contractual marriage had never been in her hands.
And now, with things escalating, she figured the Clark family probably didn’t want to maintain the engagement either.
The car stopped outside King Villa, and Jennifer slowly walked inside.
She noticed several cars parked in the yard, including Timothy’s -there were others as well.
She wondered, “Has someone come? Is it Angelina or Millie?”
Jennifer took a deep breath. Whatever was coming would come eventually.
She walked directly into the hall and was greeted by the sight of the entire Hargreaves family sitting on the sofa.
