Chapter 210 She Will Never Compromise
Sarah despised Jennifer.
However, she couldn’t continue focusing on James‘ issue and needed to redirect her conflict to Jennifer, who had just returned with a suitcase, likely kicked out by the Clark family.
Hearing Sarah changed the subject, Jennifer sneered, “What’s it to you?”
“Jennifer, we’re family. I’m concerned about your sudden return. You misunderstood me,” Sarah replied, her expression one of resignation.
Asher, overhearing, wondered if Jennifer had indeed been expelled.
He confronted her, “Who allowed you to return with your suitcase?”
“Didn’t you hear me at King Villa? I said I’d break off my engagement with Timothy, so of course I’m moving back,” Jennifer retorted, feeling a chill from Asher’s anger.
Despite her sacrifices for the Hargreaves family, Asher viewed her as a traitor for jeopardizing their ties with the Clark family.

No one remembered that her marriage had once saved the Hargreaves family from bankruptcy, nor did they care about her struggles within the Clark family.
Asher insisted, “You can’t cancel this engagement without my
consent!”
“The engagement is mine, not yours. If you want to keep it, you can handle it yourself,” Jennifer shot back, only to receive a slap that left her face stinging, though the emotional pain was worse.
Looking up, she asked, “Haven’t I sacrificed enough of my freedom over the years?”
After hitting her, Asher felt a moment of guilt but quickly dismissed it, realizing that her actions could lead to the family’s downfall.
He pointed at her, scolding, “Jennifer, you ran away from home to get angry with your family and made Daniel in disgrace. I’ve always supported you, but I never thought you’d disregard the family’s well–being. You’re an ungrateful person.”
Though he acknowledged he owed her and wanted to find a way to compensate her, her actions seemed intent on destroying the family’s business, which he couldn’t tolerate.
Jennifer covered her face, coldly replying, “Think what you
want.”
Despite her sacrifices, she felt she had received nothing in return and wouldn’t be foolish this time.

Seeing the tension, Sarah quickly intervened, “Asher, don’t be angry. It’s not good for your health. If Jennifer doesn’t want the engagement, I can take her place.”
This was a good opportunity for her.
Asher sighed, “Sarah, if possible, I also think this method is quite good. But Mrs. Millie Clark disagrees.”
Sarah felt a flicker of disappointment but persisted, “I didn’t expect to truly replace Jennifer. The engagement is with a Hargreaves girl, not specified. If it’s a replacement, we don’t need to explain to anyone.”
Asher hesitated, “Will this really work?”
Sarah said, “Consider it. Mrs. Millie Clark won’t cancel the engagement because she fears humiliation. If Jennifer refuses, I can honor it, saving face for the Clark family and giving Jennifer her freedom.”
The more Sarah spoke, the more she believed in her plan.
She glanced at Jennifer, asking, “What do you think?”
Jennifer scoffed, “I don’t mind, but do you really think the Clark family will fall for this?”
“I’m making this work for everyone,” Sarah insisted, turning back to Asher. “What do you think, Asher?”

“I’ll contact Mrs. Millie Clark again to discuss your idea. They likely don’t want to break off the engagement. They just feel embarrassed.”
He then turned to Jennifer, “If this doesn’t work, you need to return to King Villa and apologize to the Clark family.”
“Since I’ve moved out, I won’t go back,” Jennifer replied firmly.
She had already achieved her goal of breaking the engagement and saw no reason to return.
There had always been a divide between her and Timothy.
As she turned to leave, Asher grabbed her arm, “Do you really think you can decide this? You’ve already killed our parents. You want to ruin the company too?”
