Chapter 212 Admit Your Mistake to Asher
Jennifer stood alone in the dark, damp basement, recalling a previous time she had been locked up there.
It stemmed from a conflict with Sarah, who had stolen a piece of her mother’s legacy and then falsely accused her of theft.
Despite her attempts to explain, no one believed her, and she ended up locked in the basement for three days without food.
She resorted to gnawing on the moss growing on the walls to survive.
She walked to the wall and saw moss as expected.
This time, she was determined to escape and make the Hargreaves family pay.
After a day without food, her stomach rumbled.
Just then, Daniel approached the basement door and saw her through a small window. “Just admit your fault to Asher,” he urged..
“Why should I admit to something I didn’t do?” Jennifer replied defiantly.

“Why do you insist on this? Asher has told me to be good to you. If you apologize, he’ll help you break off the engagement,” Daniel said, realizing only then that Jennifer had returned to the family and caused trouble since.
He hesitated, wanting to help her.
The recent plagiarism incident had opened his eyes to Sarah’s true nature. After a period of reflection, he also discovered how good Jennifer had been to him in the past.
He regretted not cherishing her and pushing such a talented sister away.
Jennifer found his words sarcastic. “If Asher really wanted to help me get out of this misery and cancel this engagement, he should have done it long ago, not just when I asked.”
This shows that Asher never thought of letting her be free.
Daniel was momentarily speechless.
He finally spoke, “We’re family, and it’s tough for Asher to run the company. Your sudden decision caught him off guard. You should try to understand him.”
“And who will understand me?” Jennifer shot back, feeling drained and unwilling to waste her breath.
After a lengthy attempt to persuade her, Daniel finally relented. “I’ll come back tomorrow. If you decide to apologize, let me know.”

Daniel finally left the basement in disappointment.
When Sarah approached him, she asked, “Daniel, is Jennifer willing to apologize to Asher?”
“Are you pleased that she’s locked up?” Daniel retorted, realizing Sarah was more manipulative than he had thought.
If she hadn’t deliberately lied to me and said that Jennifer’s song was written by her, things wouldn’t have escalated.
Sarah stiffened. “How can I be pleased? I’ve been asking Asher to release her. I told you about this when you came out and asked you to persuade her.”
Ignoring her, Daniel resolved to convince Asher to let Jennifer go.
Later, during dinner, Asher returned from work.
Daniel confronted him. “It’s not right to keep Jennifer locked up like this.”
“She’s just getting a lesson,” Asher replied.
“Have you forgotten that you locked her in the basement before? She was starved for three days and nearly died!” Daniel argued, angered. “That basement is filled with bad memories for her. If you must lock her up, do it in her bedroom instead.”
Chapter 212 Admit Your Mistake to Asher Asher softened at the reminder.

Sensing this, Sarah interjected, “I think Daniel is right, but he also tried to persuade her just now, but Jennifer still refused to give in.”
“Hmph, she won’t admit her mistake if she isn’t punished. If the basement holds bad memories, she should remember them.”
Sarah smirked, satisfied with the thought of keeping Jennifer locked up and starved.
