Chapter 228 Revenge Served
Jennifer did not care about all this.
Her tone carried a hint of mockery. “The only reason James dares to act this way is because of your attitude, treating people like they are beneath you.”
Daniel looked guilty. “I did not expect James would lie.”
He thought, “Because of James‘ lie, our impression of Jennifer worsened.
It was clear that Jennifer had lost heart because of our bias.”
Daniel continued. “I did not know before, but now that I do, I will not let this happen again.”
Jennifer sneered. “Oh? Then have James leave right now.”
After hearing this, Daniel glanced at the aging James before saying. “Jennifer, he has worked for our family for years. Even if he has not done much, he has certainly put in his time. It would not be right to fire him immediately. It would not look good for the Hargreaves family if word got out.”
Jennifer’s eyes were full of sarcasm. “Then what was the point of your grand speech earlier?”
Daniel was caught off guard by her words.
He immediately turned to James. “Apologize to Jennifer. And do not let this happen again. If it does, the Hargreaves family will not keep you.”
James‘ attitude softened significantly after hearing this. He bowed his head and said, “Ms. Hargreaves, it was my fault before, I will never do this again. Please give me another chance.”
Daniel backed James up and said to Jennifer. “I promise, if he makes another mistake, I will fire him.”
Daniel thought, “Firing him right now was not appropriate.”
“Still, Daniel, this does not seem like your call. After all, Asher is the one who makes the final decisions in the family,” Jennifer
said.
“Do not worry, I still have some say in this, and this house is not just Asher’s.”
Only then did Jennifer give James a glance. Thanks to Daniel’s words, James had become much more submissive.
After breakfast, Jennifer was preparing to head to school, but a servant stopped her.
“Mr. Asher Hargreaves instructed that Ms. Hargreaves can leave after dinner tomorrow when the Clark family comes.”
“Is he afraid I will run off?” Jennifer muttered.

Daniel walked over. “Do not blame Asher. He just values the company too much. Just think of it as a day off.”
“Fine.”

Jennifer turned and went to the storage room, where she found leftover fireworks and headed to the basement.
She thought, “Since I was slaying home, I might as well have some fun.”
Daniel followed her. “What are you planning to do?”
“Obviously to have some fun. It is so boring being alone at home.”
In the basement, Jennifer lit the fireworks and tossed them
inside.
Sarah’s scream echoed. “Jennifer, what are you doing?!”
“I am setting off fireworks for you.”
Jennifer sat outside the basement, smiling. “What else do you want? I can send it all to you, for free.”
Sarah stormed to the door, glaring at Jennifer angrily. “You are trying to kill me, aren’t you?”
Daniel also walked over. “Jennifer, stop messing around. What if this catches fire?”

“Daniel, you saw it too. Jennifer was trying to kill me with those fireworks. You have to stop her!”
Jennifer sneered. “You think some fireworks could kill you? These past few days, you deliberately made sure no food was delivered to me. Is that not trying to starve me?”
“You are lying. I did send food. You just did not eat it. How is that my fault?”
Did you? You just threw it on the floor, just like you did to me!”
Jennifer’s tone turned cold. “Now, I am returning everything you gave me.”
With that, she lit another firework and aimed it at the basement.
Sarah’s scream echoed again. “Daniel, help! Save me!”
Daniel hesitated. He turned to James. “Was what Jennifer said true? Sarah did not let you send food to Jennifer?”
James looked guilty. “Ms. Campbell said she would handle Ms. Hargreaves‘ meals, but sometimes Ms. Campbell goes out and misses the meal time. It happens a lot.”
Daniel’s face darkened.
He thought, “So, they did not get Jennifer the food on time?”
He had not expected Sarah to be so malicious. Thinking about

how Jennifer had been starving and fainted from low blood sugar, he felt even more guilty.
In the end. Daniel did not stop Jennifer.

He thought, “After all, I had trusted Sarah too much and let Jennifer suffer. Let Jennifer have some relief now, since Sarah was in the wrong too. A little hardship might be good for her.”
