I got a call from a number I didn’t recognize.
“Hailey, can you meet me?”
<
It was Tiffany.
I was going to go after her later, but she
came after me first?
Of course I agreed. We met at the cafe by the
school.
“Are you happy with yourself?” Tiffany glared
at me.
I took a sip of coffee, “Did you see me
showing off?
“You’re going to Harvard, of course you’re showing off!” Tiffany’s eyes were full of rage.
I laughed, “You didn’t get your way, did you?
Tiffany, you asked Liam to do that, didn’t
you? To date me so that I would try to get a
So you can ruin me, right?”
As I said that, I secretly recorded our
conversation.
“You’re disgusting!”
I wanted to make her angry.
She slammed the table, “So what!”
“Hailey! Why did you get into Harvard?”
I tilted my head, “Why? Because I’m smart!”
“Hailey! I hate your face, like everything is
under your control.”
“But why? I’m not any worse than you, why
does Ethan like you!”
<
When I heard Ethan’s name, my heart skipped
a beat.
“But we never talked in high school.” I said
honestly.
Tiffany looked even more crazy, “Are you
bragging about how he likes you even though
you guys never talked?”
“I confessed to Ethan junior year, I’m smart
and beautiful, and guys were always chasing
after me.”
“I thought that he would say yes, but he
turned me down. He said that he liked
someone else, and that someone was you,
who was not as good as me!”
Tiffany knew before I did that Ethan liked me.
く
vvnat was sne even talking about? I was in
the top 3 in our class, and my appearance
was pretty different from hers. Where did she
get the confidence to think that I wasn’t as
good as her?
“Liam had been chasing me for 2 years, so I
thought I’d let him pretend to get a bad
score, then let him tell you to get a lower
score on your test so you wouldn’t meet
Ethan at Harvard! I was going to make you
fail. I thought you were that dumb, but you
were plotting against Liam too.
“You’re way too confident! I got into Harvard
because I’m smart. You were the one who
plotted against me!”
My words got to her and she stood up, ready
to hit me.
<
I saw it coming. Before she could slap me, I
splashed her with my iced coffee.
Her forehead and nose were all red.
“Hailey!” Tiffany screamed.
I waved my phone, “Why? Oh, I recorded our
conversation. You’re going down.”
I turned to leave but remembered something.
“Oh yeah, pay for your coffee.”
I ignored her angry face and left.
