Chapter 1
Last night, Lydia Everett had drunk too much and, in the middle of the night, woke up feeling parched. Groggy and disoriented, she stumbled out of bed and headed downstairs in search of water.
Damon…. Damon… I just can’t control myself. I love you… In the stillness of the night, those intimate words sounded. strangely out of place.
At the sound of that voice, Lydia, who had been half–asleep, suddenly snapped wide awake. Her eyes flew open.
In disbelief, her hand, still holding the cup, trembled slightly, spilling water onto the delicate skin of her hand.
Although the water was warm, she felt a cold shiver shoot up from her hand to her chest.
The voice she had just heard had come from the guest room on the first floor, her best friend Scarlett Jones‘ room.
Shaking. Lydia pushed open the guest room door and turned on the light
When she saw the scene inside, a wave of cold rushed over her, enveloping her entirely. Her fingertips trembled as they hovered over the light switch.
The man and woman in the bed froze, shocked by the sudden light, and it took them a few moments to realize what had just happened.
Scarlett screamed, quickly pulling the blanket over her exposed body.
The man’s eyes flashed with a brief, fleeting panic before his brow furrowed, clearly annoyed by the interruption.
Lydia found it deeply ironic, wondering, I trusted both of them so much… but they were having an affair behind my back… in my own home…. How could they possibly have the nerve to do this?‘
She wasn’t sure how to speak, her voice coming out hoarse. “Oh, well, this is amazing, isn’t it? When did my house become Hollywood? Are you two filming a scene here?”
Scarlett, shyly hiding behind Damon Williams, blushed, her cheeks flushed from the sweat.
Nervously, she tried to explain, her gaze flitting away, “Lydia, we
She wanted to explain, but being caught in the act, there was nothing left to say.
Lydia shifted her gaze to Damon, the man who had once been so gentle and considerate toward her. In that fleeting moment, she saw a brief flash of excitement in his eyes as if he led succeeded in his revenge, and it struck her deeply. Lydia’s brows furrowed in disbelief, her lips curling downward, her eyes darkening with contempt.
Releasing her tightly clenched fist, Lydia let out a heavy sigh and asked in a low, steady voice, “When did this start?”
Her voice was raspy, filled with a sob, and her eyes were red, glistening with unshed tears
Though her heart was heavy with unbearable pain, Lydia held herself together, lifting her chin stubbornly and staring at
them.
Damon’s deep eyes softened, his voice carrying a trace of regret Lydia…”

Chapter 1
Before he could finish, Searlett interrupted, her voice trembling Damon, we need to tell Lydia everything now. I can’t keep hiding anymore… I don’t want to sneak around. Lydia, we love each other deeply…
Lydia’s ears rang, the words barely registering at first.
She stared at Scarlett for a long while, and for a moment, she couldn’t even recognize the woman before her, crying.
It was a face Lydia knew, yet it felt both painfully familiar and painfully foreign at the same time.
Lydia asked again, her voice barely above a whisper, “How long has this been going on?”
Damon’s expression darkened, and Scarlett, hastily answered “We’ve been together for more than six months… We couldn’t control our feelings… I’m so sorry…
The commotion downstairs had caught the attention of Lily Everett and John Everett upstairs.
They hurried down, and upon seeing the scene in the guest room, John felt his vision blur, his blood pressure spiking. “You… you’ve gone too far.”
Lily rushed to support John, who was on the verge of collapsing. “What’s going on here?”
Scarlett, guilt on her face, apologized. Mrs. Everett, Mr. Everett, I’m so sorry. I really love Damon, We couldn’t resist each other. We’ve been together over for six months but didn’t know how to tell Lydia. We never meant to hurt her.
Lily sighed, looking at Lydia. “Lydia, since things have come to this, you might as well accept it.”
Both Lydia and John stared at Lily in shock.
Lily’s face shifted slightly, and she added, “Matters of the heart can’t be forced. What’s done is done. What else can you do? Scarlett is gentle and elegant… She’s actually more suited to Damon…
John snapped angrily, “Shut up.” The pain inside Lydia grew even stronger. Her lips curled up in a bitter, self–mocking smile.
Looking at her mother’s calm face, so familiar yet so distant, Lydia barely managed to keep her emotions in check.
If it weren’t for the faint resemblance between her and Lily, Lydia might have questioned whether this woman was even her real mother.
Truth be told, Lydia didn’t have a good temper. It was a miracle he hadn’t completely lost control at that moment.
Pretending and stubbornness were the only things holding her gether now.
Lydia didn’t want to make things more awkward than they already were, and she couldn’t bear for anyone to see the wound she was quietly nursing inside.
Taking a deep breath, she spat out. “I guess I misjudged people and gave my heart to two ungrateful guys.” Without waiting for a response, she turned and walked away.
Behind her, John shouted in rage. “Get out! Both of you!” He was beyond furious.
John shook off Lily’s hand and stormed upstairs. His steps faltered, and he fell down the stairs, twisting his ankle and rendering it immobile.
Lydia immediately turned back, rushing to call the family doctor Half an hour later, the doctor arrived.

As Lydia opened the door, her mind was a blank and she collided with the doctor’s chest.
At that moment, Lydia lost all sense of reason. When she hit him, she didn’t even manage to apologize.
The man was wearing a white coat and a mask, and Lydia couldn’t see his face.
When she looked up, all she could make out were his deep eyes, and a chilling aura that seemed to surround him.

The doctor slightly furrowed his brows but didn’t look at the woman in front of him. He asked coldly, “Where’s the patient?”
Lydia quickly led him to the second–floor master bedroom. Inside, the doctor examined John and confirmed that it was just a sprained ankle, not serious.
Lydia quietly left the room and went to the bathroom. At that moment, the last thing Lydia wanted to see was her father’s worried, pitying eyes.
In the bathroom, she looked at her reflection in the mirror, her eyes were red and swollen from crying. Lydia splashed cold water on her face, the icy touch breaking the dam inside her. She couldn’t hold back the tears anymore.
Being betrayed by two people she trusted, her heart felt like it was being torn apart.
Lydia had always thought such absurd situations only happened in movies or novels, but now it was unfolding in her own life, out of nowhere.
Just a few hours ago, Lydia had dreamed of her wedding to Damon, imagining Scarlett as their bridesmaid.
Now, all of Lydia’s fantasies had been shattered. Looking back, she could only think of how foolish she had been.
About six months ago, Damon’s work had suddenly become much busier.
He had stopped being as considerate toward her as before. Lydia had believed it was because he was busy with work.
At the time, Scarlett had hinted at something, but Lydia had defended Damon’s work, trusting him and encouraging him to be ambitious.
Lydia slapped her forehead, wishing she could just smack the foolish version of herself.
Probably, she had already been the butt of their jokes for over six months.
There was a pain in her chest as if something had been ripped out. It hurt deeply.
Lydia knew that space in her heart was filled with Damon. She and Damon had grown up together.
Her parents had always been happy with their bond, and Lydia ad known from an early age that she would marry Damon when she grew up.
