Chapter 21
The next morning. Lydia ran into Samuel downstairs at her house.
Samuel wore his usual sly, almost sinister smile. “Good morning, Lydia. Where’s Henry! I was thinking of inviting him to
breakfast,” he said.
Sorry, Henry’s on a night shift at the hospital, Lydia replied with a bright smile.
Samuel’s face lit up, realizing that his decision to drug her had been the right one. Lydia seemed so cheerful today.
I’ve got to get to work, Lydia said, taking a couple of steps before turning back. By the way, you and Henry seem pretty close. Would you mind leaving me your number? Maybe I’ll need to discuss some things about him with later.”
you
Samuel readily nodded. “Of course. Feel free to reach out whenever. I’m always available, and I’ll tell you everything I know. My number is…..
Lydia saved his contact and dialed it once, just to test it. As the call connected. Samuel smiled even wider.
If I ever call you, please don’t mind the hassle. Lydia said.
Of course not, Samuel replied.
Alright, then. Goodbye. Lydia waved as she turned to leave, anit her mile remained, though her bright eyes held a hint of slyness.
Goodbye, Samuel said, a faint sense of unease creeping into him, though he couldn’t pmpoint exactly what felt wrong. It wasn’t until an hour later that he finally realized what was goinçon.
In the afternoon, Samuel barged into Henry’s office
Samuel, normally cynical, was fuming with frustration. He sat down in the chair by Henry’s desk and loosened his tie “Henry, you need to keep Lydia in check”
Henry, who had been writing a report, glanced up at Samuel but didn’t respond
Samuel let out a deep breath, stood up, and slammed his hand on the desk. “Henry, you really need to control Lydia,”
Henry looked up again, his gaze cold and detached, “What’s going on?”
Samuel placed his phone on the desk, the screen showing 120 missed calls. “Look”
Henry glanced at it quickly, and another call came through just as he did.
Samuel gritted his teeth as he saw the unfamiliar number, then pressed the speakerphone button
A man began. “Hey, I saw your post on the forum looking for a boyfriend. Let me introduce myself.
I’m a little over six feet tall, and I’ve got a great body. If you’re interested, we can add each other on WhatsApp and get to know each other better..
Dammit, Samuel muttered, fighting the urge to smash his phone, and ended the call.

But only two seconds later, another call came in. “Hello, do you have time right now? What are your rates?”
Samuel hung up again, his eyes practically burning with anger.
Henry immediately understood, but his face remained as cold as ever, his lips pressed into a thin line. Unlike Samuel’s rage, Henry was absolutely calm.
Samuel took a deep breath, trying to reason with him, “Henry. warned you about Helen. I’m always efficient, right? And as for the drugs, I was doing this for your own good.
Lydia is sweet, beautiful, with great skin. Plus, the most important thing in a marriage is the intimacy. Do you really think what I did was wrong?
Henry glanced at the report in his hands, his tone flat as he asked. “Are you done?”
Samuel let out a deep sigh, looking completely innocent.
Take care of Lydia and have her delete all those messaged posts. That’ll be the end of it. Troubled with those nuisance calls, Samuel was at his -breaking point.
He had given Lydia his personal number this morning, thinking of her as a friend. That number was crucial.
You deserve it, Henry replied coldly.
Samuel’s face turned blushed with rage. “Henry, how can you say that? Do you have any idea how much this hurts me?”
Get out. Henry said, his voice icy.
Henry, you can’t just shut me out like this… Samuel said, his voice rising in frustration.
Get out. Now, Henry said.
You two are the perfect match. One’s heartless, the other’s a backstabber. A match made for each other. Samuel couldn’t help but lash out, his words dripping with sarcasm.
Samuel walked toward the door, and Henry’s voice stopped him. Hold on.”
Samuel turned quickly. “What is it?”
Henry raised an eyebrow. “Help me organize Lydia’s data. Make sure it’s thorough.”
Samuel, filled with frustration, froze and then his expression shifted to one of shock.
Henry had actually spoken that much all because of Lydia.
It was the second time Henry had spoken this much to Samuel.
Samuel turned around, gritting his teeth. “Despicable! Henry, you’re so cruel. You’re benefiting so much, yet you still play the ice king Why can’t I see through you?”
Deal! Henry asked.
Deal. Samuel’s teeth ground together, the sound echoing in the air.
Ten minutes before Lydia’s shift ended, she received a call from Henry saying he was going to pick her up. She was taken

completely by surprises
She hadn’t expected Henry to call her, especially since she’d never given him her number. And she certainly hadn’t expected Henry to pick her up from work.
Does this mean Henry cares about me a little? Lydia wondered to herself.
As Lydia walked out of the company building, she saw Henry leaning against the door, attracting the attention of every beautiful lady passing by.
Lydia quickly walked toward him, eager to hurry him along and avoid any unwanted attentiort
But in her haste, she twisted her ankle while stepping down the stairs, her face going pale from the sudden pain.
Amidst the envious glances from the other women. Henry quickly strode over, bending down to help Lydia up.
Lydia covered her face, teasing from within his arms. “It’s so mortifying”
Henry gently patted her chest, his voice soft. “Does it hurt?”
Lydia nodded. “It hurts more than the first time we made love.
Henry looked at Lydia’s mischievous expression and couldn’t help but smile slightly
Once they got in the car and left, inside a Bentley parked just to the left of the company entrance, the dark–tinted window slowly slid down, revealing Damon.
His brow furrowed, and his face stiffened. His fingers tightened around the steering wheel, the muscles in his hand straining with frustration.
The first time? Lydia is a virgin? Is Henry an idiot? Damon thought to himself.
Damon loathed himself even more. He knew exactly what kind of woman Lydia was, yet he couldn’t let
go
of her.
Unable to get into her neighborhood, he had switched cars and was now parked outside her company, just to see her. Damon even wondered if he was losing his mind.
At the hospital, Henry was cleaning Lydia’s wound. Though the injury wasn’t serious, just a scrape on her heel, he still insisted on bringing her to the hospital
Lydia, ever playful, joked with him. “I suddenly think marrying a doctor wouldn’t be so bad.”
Henry, focused on his work, didn’t reply.
Henry, the way you work is really… intriguing. Is this how you are all the time? Lydia couldn’t help but ask with a teasing
tone.
The nurses nearby were absolutely stunned. There’s actually a woman who isn’t scared of Mr. Brooks? they thought.
Henry’s aura was so intimidating that none of them dared to speak to him directly.
After finishing tending to her wound, Henry told Lydia to wait in the office while he went to the restroom.

To his surprise, he ran into Damon, who was there accompanying Scarlett for a checkup.
Damon paused for a moment, feeling that the world was smaller than he had thought..
Henry shot him a cold glance, not pausing for even a second. He turned and walked straight to the sink to wash his hands.
Damon’s eyes narrowed in disdain as he continued washing his hands.
Henry’s phone rang. He answered it, and Lydia’s sweet voice filled the line. “Henry, can I start doting on you the way other wives do for their husbands?”
Henry paused for a moment, the words tugging at his heart in a way that felt unexpectedly gentle.
Sure. His voice was still cold, but his words came out slightly faster than usual.
Then, on the way home, could you get me a tiramisu? I really want some dessert. My foot hurts, and I heard sweets can help. ease the pain… Lydia’s voice was cheerful on the other end of the line.
Her tone was playful, with a hint of a pout.
