Chapter 32 Your Mom Leaves You
Abigail was excited for her first day at work. She woke up at six AM, unable to sleep any longer.
After freshening up, she made some oatmeal. At this time, Felix knocked on her door.
Abigail suddenly remembered her promise to him yesterday to jog with him every morning. She quickly changed into workout clothes and went out for a morning run with him.
By the time they returned, the oatmeal had been soaking and was almost ready to be served, soft and delicious.
Felix didn’t stop until he’d finished three bowls of oatmeal.
After the meal, they went back to change clothes. Abigail was still wearing the same black suit from yesterday.
As they took the elevator, Felix looked at her attire. “Do I pay you that little?”
“No, not at all. The salary is actually quite good, and I’m satisfied.”
“Then why don’t you buy a few more outfits? Are you planning to wear the same one to work every day?”
Abigail was a little speechless. Of course, she knew wearing the
Chapter 32 Your Mom Leaves You same outfit repeatedly wasn’t polite.

But she had just started her job and hadn’t received her first. paycheck yet. Besides, she had been busy all day yesterday and hadn’t had time to shop.
And professional attire was expensive! That little salary would cover her living expenses, but buying several new outfits was a bit of a stretch.
Still, Felix was her boss, so Abigail patiently replied, “You’re right, Mr. Rowe. Once you help me win the divorce case the day after tomorrow, I’ll have money to buy clothes.”
Felix, oblivious to her sarcasm, looked up proudly. “Well, then you’ve come to the right person. Don’t forget to buy me a suit as a thank–you when it’s all over.”
When they reached the first floor, Abigail was about to leave the building, but Felix grabbed her and pulled her back.
“Where are you going?”
“Taking the bus to work.”
“Are you stupid, Abigail? We’re going to the office together, and you can ride in my car. I won’t ask you for money.”
Abigail knew he wasn’t going to charge her but still felt uncomfortable with the idea of taking the boss‘ car to and from work. It didn’t seem like a good look if any coworkers saw it.
Chapter 32 Your Mom Leaves You Seeing Abigail hesitate, Felix remained firm.

“I hired an assistant to be by my side at all times. It’s normal for an assistant and her boss to commute together.”
With his firm attitude, Abigail had no choice but to nod and go with him to the car.
Sure enough, from the moment they got out of the car and entered the company building, Abigail felt like all eyes were on her.
It made her feel somewhat uncomfortable.
“Hold your head high and walk with confidence. You’re my assistant, and following around a boss who’s a heartthrob like me naturally attracts attention.”
Abigail thought it was a bit strange. If anyone else said such arrogant things, it would sound repulsive. But when Felix said it, it felt almost like he was just stating a fact.
After all, he did stand out in any crowd.
Once they arrived at Felix’s office, Abigail expected him to arrange a separate office or workspace for her.
Instead, Felix pointed to a small desk next to his.
“This will be your workspace.”
“Me? In the same office as you?”

Felix raised an eyebrow. “What did you expect? How else would you be my assistant? Didn’t they tell you that as my assistant, you need to be available at all times?”
“They did, but…”
“No buts. You need to be where I can call you at any moment.”
Abigail pursed her lips, helpless. She sat down at the small desk beside him.
“I’m meeting with a client in the conference room, but I need you to handle something first.”
This was her first task at work. She stood up excitedly.
“Tell me what to do!”
“This kindergarten has a child named Grace in the middle class. I need you to find her and, as her mother’s friend, accompany her to the parent–child sports day.”
Abigail was shocked. She never expected that her first task would be to deal with a child.
“I’m sorry, but… How does taking care of a child relate to our company’s work?”
“Of course it does. I didn’t hire you just to babysit. Her mother is one of my clients. She’s currently in the middle of a divorce.”

Abigail then understood the situation by Felix’s explanation.
Grace’s mother had been working abroad for years, and her father had been raising her at home. However, the father had an affair because of loneliness.
Now, her mother wanted a divorce and was fighting for custody.
“But if her mother wants the child to choose her, shouldn’t she be the one to accompany her to the event?”
Felix looked at her. “She’s abroad and can’t come back for now.
But we need to make sure the child knows that her mother exists and cares about her. Our job is to fulfill the client’s request.”
Though Abigail didn’t fully understand, she didn’t press the issue and agreed to the task.
When Felix sent her the address for the kindergarten, Abigail froze again.
This was the same kindergarten where Marcus went! What a coincidence. Marcus was also in the same class.
Though she felt some resistance, Abigail changed into the sportswear she had brought with her that morning, which she had planned to keep at work for occasions.
After Felix and the client left for their meeting, Abigail headed to the kindergarten.
The parent–child sports day was as it sounded. It was an event

where children and their parents participated together in various activities and completed tasks cooperatively.

Abigail had accompanied Marcus to this event before. She had even managed to win prizes in every event, all for her son’s sake.
But Marcus had never appreciated it. Whenever someone praised Abigail for being amazing, Marcus would just look at her disdainfully and coldly.
“My mom is a useless person who relies on my dad for
everything. The only thing she’s good at is joining sports events. If she were worth nothing, my dad wouldn’t have kept her.”
Each of his words pierced Abigail’s heart, but she always pretended not to hear, continuing to help him win.
Today, she wasn’t there as Marcus‘ mother.
The moment Abigail arrived at the kindergarten and entered the playground, many children and their parents were already getting ready for the event.
Marcus was sitting on a small bench, looking at the other children and their parents, his face clouded with anger.
One of the boys walked over.
“Marcus, your mom hasn’t come yet, has she?”
Another girl came over, too. “Last time, your mom didn’t show up either. Is it true that your mom doesn’t want you anymore?”
Chapter 32 Your Mom Leaves You Marcus‘ face darkened.

“What are you talking about? My mom would never leave me. If she did, my dad would cut off her bank card.”
The boy smiled mockingly, “So where is she now? Why didn’t she come?”
The girl sneered, “Marcus, you’re the most pitiful kid. Your mom doesn’t want you.”
A few other kids gathered around, watching the spectacle.
Marcus had always been treated like royalty, adored by
everyone.
But now, seeing the others mock him, he was fuming with rage.
Just then, the little girl noticed someone walking from behind.
“Marcus, is that your mom?”
Marcus turned around and immediately saw Abigail. The gloom on his face faded slightly, replaced by a smug look.
He thought, “I knew it. My mom, who always put me and my dad first, would never stay away for long.”
“You see? I told you she’d come!”
With that, Marcus proudly strutted toward Abigail, holding his

head high and walking with a swagger.

When Abigail saw him walking towards her, her heart couldn’t help but skip a beat.
Marcus stood in front of her, hands on his hips, ready to question her.
“You’re late! You’re an adult, but you don’t even have a sense of time! I thought you weren’t coming, so I already called Michelle. Now you’re making things difficult for me!”
Abigail calmly looked down at her son. Her face was cold.
Behind her, the other parents and children began to stare in their direction.
Before Abigail could speak, Marcus continued, “I’m going to tell Dad. If you can’t even handle this little thing, let’s see if Dad will still give you any money!
“You are inferior to Michelle in every way. You also get angry without reason. I really don’t know why Dad married you.”
Abigail realized that Marcus was trying to vent his frustrations in front of everyone to regain some face after the previous embarrassments.
Sure enough, the surrounding parents and kids started whispering and casting curious glances at Abigail and Marcus.
Children didn’t understand the concept of keeping family

matters private. They just wanted to vent their own feelings.

Abigail didn’t want to engage in a confrontation. She didn’t want to become the laughingstock of the situation. She just wanted to complete her first work assignment properly.
She looked at Marcus. “You can call Michelle. It’s fine. I didn’t come here to accompany you today, and I won’t do so in the future. You’d better get ready for her to accompany you from
now on.”
Marcus was almost incredulous. He couldn’t believe that Abigail would humiliate him in front of so many people.
“What did you say? You’re not here to accompany me? Then why did you come?”
