Chapter 38 Divorce Case
Abigail, Felix, and Grace arrived at the steakhouse.
Grace was treated to a children’s meal, while the adults each ordered a steak.
After a long day of activities, their appetites were whetted, and they all ate heartily.
Abigail couldn’t help but feel lighter and more energized.
“Grace, did you have fun today?” she asked, her eyes filled with affection.
Grace nodded enthusiastically. “Of course! It was the best sports day ever! But… I have a question.”
Felix and Abigail exchanged glances as Grace’s eyes sparkled with curiosity.
“Ms. Taylor, are you Felix’s girlfriend?”
The question came out of nowhere, and Felix nearly choked on his wine. Abigail, mid–cutting her steak, almost dropped her knife.
Who said children didn’t understand anything? Their innocent questions could be so explosive.

Abigail put down her utensils awkwardly and was about to explain when Felix beat her to it. “Grace, why do you ask?”
Grace’s face was smeared with jam, her expression serious.

Because I think you and Ms. Taylor are a great match. Besides, don’t you have to be a couple to be a child’s mom and dad? If you’re not a couple, how can you be my mom and dad?”
It seemed like Grace understood more than she let on, but at the same time, she didn’t quite grasp the full implications.
Just as Abigail expected Felix to steer the conversation away or provide some sort of explanation, Felix dropped another bombshell.
“Well, why don’t you ask Abigail if she wants to be my girlfriend?”
Abigail, who had just taken a sip of water, nearly spit it out.
She looked at Grace, who was staring at her expectantly.
Abigail managed to swallow the water. “Grace, sweetie, grown–ups‘ matters are not for kids to worry about.”
Grace, obedient as always, returned to her food.
Felix shrugged and dropped the subject.
After dinner, they dropped Grace off at home.

Her father hadn’t returned from work yet, and the nanny answered the door.
On the way back, Abigail felt tired and dozed off in the passenger seat.

She didn’t know how long she had been asleep when she opened her eyes to find the car parked in the underground garage.
Felix was sitting in the driver’s seat.
“Sorry, I must have dozed off. I didn’t keep you waiting, did I?” she asked, rubbing her eyes.
Felix got out of the car, giving her a casual shrug. “Traffic was a mess. We just got here.”
Abigail followed Felix upstairs. As they stepped into the elevator, there was an awkward silence. Abigail hesitated for a moment before speaking.
“Mr. Rowe, it’s my first day. How did I do?”
Felix raised an eyebrow. “How do you think you did?”
“I guess… okay?”
The elevator stopped, and they stepped out. Felix opened the door to his apartment and went inside. Before closing the door, he turned to Abigail and said, “You did great today. Keep it up.”
Abigail was stunned. It took her a moment to realize that she

was excited.

Perhaps it was because it was her first day of work, and she had received a compliment.
After taking a relaxing shower, Abigail went to bed early.
She had court tomorrow, and she needed to be well–prepared to
claim her freedom.
Early the next morning, before Felix could knock, Abigail was already dressed in her workout clothes, sitting by the door,
waiting.
Felix opened the door a moment later.
Seeing her already adjusted to the morning run’s biological clock, a slight smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
As usual, Abigail made soup for breakfast and fried two pancakes.
After eating, they headed to the court together.
Abigail felt a little embarrassed. While other assistants drove their bosses, she always sat in the boss‘ car instead of driving.
But given her limited skills, she guessed Felix couldn’t quite trust her.
On the way, Abigail seemed a little nervous. Felix glanced at her through the rearview mirror and broke the awkward silence

first.

“Remember to pay me my legal fees once the divorce is finalized and you get your share of the money.”
Abigail laughed at his joke.
“The hearing is about to start. Isn’t there anything you want to tell me?”
Usually, before a hearing, lawyers would prepare a set of
statements or a template for their clients to increase the logic of their side and prepare to win the case.
But he hadn’t mentioned anything at all.
Felix was wearing sunglasses and chewing gum, his demeanor at odds with his suit.
“What do you think I should tell you?”
Abigail shook her head. “I don’t know, but you should say something.”
Felix smiled, “Abigail, I think you’ve been a housewife for too long and forgotten your identity. You were once a law student, so I don’t need to teach you anything. You should naturally know what to say.”
Abigail pursed her lips and didn’t respond.
As they say, the more one knows, the less one sees. Honestly, her

mind was blank at the moment.

For the past few years, she had always thought that she would
love Anthony forever.
She had willingly given everything for that family.
But now,
she just wanted to live for herself. This kind of change. was difficult for even her to adapt to.
The car soon stopped in front of the courthouse.
Anthony’s car was parked opposite theirs, and Anthony and Abigail made eye contact across the windshield.
Before getting out of the car, Felix finally spoke.
“Sometimes, sincere words are more powerful than professional rhetoric. Saying what you truly feel is the easiest way to move a judge.”
With Felix’s words, Abigail felt relieved and got out of the car with him.
Anthony also got out of the car with his lawyer, and the four of them stood facing each other.
None of them intended to back down.
“Abigail, I’ll give you one last chance. If you insist on making trouble, I’ll leave you with nothing.”

Abigail looked at Anthony coldly. “I’ve already lost everything, so why would I be afraid of your threats?”
With that, Abigail and Felix walked inside first.
Watching her back, Anthony’s face turned cold.
He turned slightly to his lawyer.
“Don’t go easy on her. I want Abigail to know better.”
The lawyer nodded. “Don’t worry, Mr. Robinson.”
At ten o’clock in the morning, the divorce hearing officially began.
Looking at Anthony sitting opposite her, Abigail suddenly felt a
mix of emotions.
When she married him, she had so many expectations, and now she was so disappointed.
After Felix and the opposing lawyer stated their respective demands, the next stage began.
The judge looked at Abigail.
“Plaintiff, are you certain that your relationship has broken down, that you want a divorce, and that you want fifty percent of the marital property?”
Abigail did not hesitate. “Yes.”

The judge then turned to Anthony.

“Defendant, do you believe that your relationship has not broken down but that there are only misunderstandings, that you do not agree to a divorce, and that you do not agree to divide the property?”
Anthony said coldly, “Yes.”
