Chapter 23
CHAPTER 21: GET OUT OF MY HOUSE
“What is this woman doing here?”
Isabella turned, meeting Coraline’s defiant gaze. Despite the tension, she remained calm.
“Oh, you must be Sebastian’s mother. I came to visit Nicholas, Sebastián thought it would be good for me to spend time with him.”
Coraline frowned, clearly unsatisfied with the explanation, and she couldn’t care less about what her son thought. She approached tabella and looked her up and down with a coldness that cut through the air.
I don’t know what you might have imagined, but you are not welcome here. And telon’t want you near my grandson.”
Isabella pressed her lips together but took a deep breath and said, “Mother–in–law……
“Don’t call me that Sebastian’s mother exclaimed indignantly. “I don’t know what you did to convince my son, but I warn you. I’m not as easy as he is. I don’t like you, and I’ll tell you straight, I don’t want you as my daughter–in–law, and much less as Nicholas’s mother, understand! So get out, get out of my house, right now!”
Isabells, though hurt, stood her ground. She wondered what on earth her husbands‘ mothers had against her, however, this time she wouldn’t stay
salent
“I understand that I may not be to your liking, but Sebastian chose me, and that isn’t going to change. I’m going to be your son’s wife, and whether you like it or not. I’m going to be a presence in Nicholas’s life. So you better get used to seeing me.”
Coraline gasped at Isabellas audacity and painted her finger at her, her voice trembling with rage.
“You have some nerve. Listen to me well, 1 will do everything in my power to make sure you stay away from my family. You are not worthy of bearing our name or raising Nicholas. We’ll see how long your marriage lasts once Sebastian sees your true colors”
The air between the two women was thick with tension, but Isabella was not intimidated.
“My true colors?” she scoffed. I think the one who’s going to be in trouble is you. Don’t you realize that both your son and I only want to save Nicholas That we’re looking for an option for him?”
Sebastian’s mother anorted.
“Save your speech; I know your type. You just saw your opportunity and took it. I can assure you that you care very little for my grandson, but I warn you, you won’t last long. I will personally make sure of that…”
“Of what?” Isabella interrupted, visibly angry at Coraline’s prejudices. She knew nothing about her but dared to label her as an opportunist. It was Sebastian who had proposed the deal, and she had only accepted for Nicholas and her father. “You better save yourself the trouble, and if it helps you, I’ll inform you that my marriage with Sebastián is temporary. You won’t have to put up with me for long, I assure you
Temporary or not, I don’t want you in my family. In this house, there’s only one future Mrs. Ashford, and it’s not you, dear. You don’t have what it takes. We don’t even know where you come from you might as well be an illegal immigrant in this country. So, if you have any shame, get out of both my house and my son’s life”
Isabella was left speechless at such an accusation. She couldn’t understand how a woman like that could be Nicholas’s grandmother. She doubted she really loved him.
“Do you really love your grandsonst Do you care about his salvation?”
Coraline narrowed i
her eyes, and her disdain fo
for Isabella grew
“Who do you think you are to question my love for my grandson! Who gave you that right?”
“Well, let me doubt it, ma’am… Instead of being happy that he will have a chance, you’re here worrying if I’m undocumented. And no, I’m not. I was born here and am a citizen of this country.”
Coraline ignored her reproach.
“I already sold you, you’re not needed. We have enough money to find a compatible donor, and in any case, if my grandson needs a sibling. Ines
