“Not just that. I heard Mr. Robinson threw that woman a huge, extravagant birthday party a few days ago.”
“Isn’t his wife going to be mad about that?”
“Mad? Why would she be? A successful guy like him is a catch. It’s totally normal for him to have a few women around. What, you think these guys don’t keep a wife at home and a mistress on the side? That’s basically the dream for most men.”
“And I heard Mr. Robinson and his wife are getting a divorce. Maybe this woman’s trying to take her place.”
The gossip spread quickly, and though they were talking in hushed tones, the words were clear enough.
Michelle, standing by the office window, overheard everything.
It was almost like the office was a breeding ground for rumors.
Feeling uncomfortable, she decided to shut it all out and pulled. the blinds down.

Anthony shot her a quick glance, but the tension in his eyes was clear. “Why are you here? Is there something you couldn’t just say over the phone?”
Normally, Anthony was a workaholic. He didn’t bring personal drama to the office.
People at work thought of him as a dedicated husband, the guy who worked hard to support his wife and family.
His image as the perfect husband was pretty much intact.
He walked over to the big windows and gazed out at the skyline, taking a sip of his coffee.
Michelle stood up and quietly walked over to him, wrapping her arms around his waist from behind, resting her cheek against his broad back.
“Anthony, I stopped by your place this morning… I saw Abigail.”
Anthony froze, his body stiffening. He didn’t say a word.
Michelle continued, “She said she doesn’t want to divorce you… Is that true?”
Anthony set his coffee down and gently peeled her arms away from him before turning around.

“We’ve been married for years, Michelle. She’s just acting out. It’s nothing serious. It’s never been.”
His voice was flat, almost too calm. Michelle couldn’t help but feel a sting.
“So what does that mean for me? If neither of you is serious about ending things, what does that leave me as? The other woman? The one hiding in the shadows?”
Anthony frowned. “Michelle, I…”
Before he could finish, Michelle’s eyes welled up. “Anthony, I can’t take it anymore. I thought I could just let go and let you be happy, even if it meant stepping aside. But when I saw Abigail today… I realized I couldn’t just sit back and watch. I can’t just let you go back to her. You’ve always been mine, and I can’t just hand you over like this.”
Anthony stood there, unsure how to respond. The situation had gotten more complicated than he expected.
After that night, everything had changed. They could no longer pretend nothing had happened. The truth was out, and it was tearing at them both.
When Abigail came back, Anthony had felt a bit more at ease, thinking maybe things would settle.
But now, with Michelle confronting him like this, he felt himself growing more unsettled.

Michelle knew what Anthony was getting at.
She knew him well enough to understand that, while he tried to hide behind Marcus, the truth was, Abigail still mattered to him.
If she didn’t, Anthony, with his pride, wouldn’t have allowed himself to bend over backward just for the child.
And Michelle had worked too hard to make sure that Marcus‘ relationship with Abigail was nowhere near as strong as the bond she shared with him.
So when Anthony said it was all about Marcus, Michelle saw right through it.
The truth was clear. Abigail had always held a special place in his heart, no matter how much he tried to deny it.
Michelle wrapped her arms around Anthony again, burying her face in his chest.
Anthony didn’t pull away, letting her tears soak through his shirt.
“Anthony, I don’t need your apologies. I just want to be with you. Now that you and she are divorcing… haven’t you thought about being with me once you’re free of her?”

Anthony frowned slightly, a little taken aback. “Michelle, since you came back, I’ve always thought of you as a friend. I never considered leaving Abigail.”
His words hit Michelle like a s
slap.
Her heart felt like it was being squeezed, and she clenched her teeth, fighting back the wave of anger.
She had convinced herself that, after all the time she’d spent playing the part of the patient, selfless woman, she’d finally have her moment.
She had waited for Abigail to bow out, for the chance to step back into Anthony’s life.
She thought Anthony would choose her.
But now, she realized how wrong she was. Abigail hadn’t really left. She had just quietly returned home, and all of Michelle’s carefully laid plans had crumbled.
A sense of helplessness washed over her. That painful, gnawing feeling of defeat threatened to swallow her whole.
Michelle knew she couldn’t just give up. She had to do something to hold onto him, to keep him in her life.
But Anthony’s refusal to make a decision left her lost, unsure of what move to make next.
After a long moment of indecision, Michelle suddenly snapped.

Then, with a quick, practiced motion, she bent over, clutching her stomach as if in agony, and started coughing violently.
Anthony’s eyes widened in shock. Without thinking, he rushed to her side.
Michelle coughed violently, blood spilling from her mouth in alarming amounts, staining the floor.
Anthony’s heart skipped a beat. Panicking, he gently helped her to the nearby couch.
“Michelle! What’s wrong? Why are you coughing up blood? We need to get you to the hospital, now!”
He grabbed his coat, ready to rush her out, but Michelle grabbed his hand, stopping him.
“There’s no need to panic, Anthony. I know my body. I’m fine. I don’t need to go to the hospital.”
The concern in his eyes was real, and that small flicker of care gave Michelle hope. She knew, deep down, that if she could just keep him feeling this way, she still had a chance.
She leaned back onto the couch, acting weak, her head resting gently on his shoulder.
“I’m so tired… Can we just go somewhere to rest?”

Anthony, ever compliant, nodded. “Alright. I’ll take you home.”
“No. Diana will worry if she sees me like this. She’ll be heartbroken.”
“Then where do you want to go? I’ll take you there.”
“Just take me to a hotel. You and Abigail have just made up. I don’t want to be in the way. Please, just take me to a hotel so I
can rest.”
Anthony hesitated. “It’s not the best idea to go to a hotel like this. Let me take you to the hospital, at least.”
Michelle shook her head again, spitting blood into the trash can. She could see the color draining from Anthony’s face as he looked at her, pale and concerned.
“What’s going on? Didn’t your condition improve? What is happening now?”
Michelle’s tears fell just at the right moment, and Anthony’s expression softened in response.
