Chapter 67 The Right Start
Charles sighed deeply. “I get what you’re saying, but what if… what if she gets hurt so badly she decides never to love again?”
Laura’s smile faltered, and she fell silent. She knew her daughter better than anyone.
Abigail had always been the type to love hard and hate just as fiercely.
When she was in love, she gave everything without holding back, no turning back. But when that love was gone, she cut all ties. cleanly, with no regrets.
The trouble was, real love didn’t come around often, and if it was betrayed, opening her heart again might be harder than
ever.
“But no matter what, Felix seems like a good guy. If he’s really the right one for Abigail, he’ll figure out a way into her heart.”
The day had been simple. Abigail was at the hospital with her father, Felix trailing along as usual.
By evening, they were back home early, preparing for tomorrow’s big day.
When Abigail got home, she watered the hydrangeas, then went out to take out the trash. That was when she ran into Felix,

already dressed for a night run.
She remembered how good she’d slept last time after a jog and decided to join him.
They ran two laps, then slowed to a leisurely walk.
“Tomorrow’s the day,” Felix said. “Nervous?”
Abigail shook her head, smiling a little. “Not at all. Can’t wait for it to be over.”
Felix raised an eyebrow. “Have you thought about what comes after? After the divorce, I mean… how will you move on?”
Abigail paused, feeling the cool breeze on her face as she thought.
“Honestly, I never really gave it much thought. All I wanted was a divorce. But now, I’ve got plans.”
Felix’s interest was piqued. “Like what?”
“I want to do so much. Take the exams. Get my qualifications, and become a real lawyer. Maybe start my own firm, just like you. And I want to use the divorce settlement to get my family’s business back on track. Spend more time with my parents…”
The more she spoke, the more excited she felt. The future. suddenly seemed full of possibilities.
Before the divorce, her world had been about Anthony and the

kids. But now, she saw that the world was so much bigger and so much more to explore.
Felix didn’t say anything, but a slight smile tugged at the corners
of his mouth. Abigail spotted it right away.
“Why are you smiling?” she asked, teasing.
He looked her in the eye with an easy grin. “I’m just glad to see the real Abigail coming back.”
Abigail blinked, a little taken aback. “What do you mean? It’s like you know the real me?”
Felix just smiled, saying nothing.
“Did Amy tell you all about me?”
Felix didn’t respond, keeping his usual quiet air of mystery.
Abigail shot him a look, then sighed and kept walking next to him.
They walked in silence for a few moments before Felix spoke again, his tone a little more playful.
“So, have you thought about what kind of guy you’d want next? After the divorce, I mean?”
The question caught Abigail off guard. To be honest, after everything, she hadn’t really thought about it. The past few years of marriage had been draining.

Felix’s eyes gleamed with curiosity when she didn’t answer right
away.
“Come on. Don’t tell me you’re the type who’ll be too scared to try again after one failed relationship?”
Abigail shook her head. “It’s not that… I just haven’t thought about it. I still need some time to get over this marriage. I don’t want to jump into another relationship until I’m completely ready. It wouldn’t be fair to anyone.”
Felix nodded, impressed. “Fair enough.”
Abigail grinned. “Of course. Besides, if all I care about is dating, can you really trust me to do my job?”
Her teasing made him laugh, and for a while, neither of them said anything. But the silence felt comfortable, easy.
After jogging a couple more laps, they both fell into an unspoken rhythm, heading back together.
When the elevator reached their floor, they stepped out, and Abigail walked to her door.
She paused and turned to look at Felix. “Goodnight, Mr. Rowe.”
Felix glanced back at her. “I want corn pancakes tomorrow morning.”
Abigail nodded. “Sure thing.”

She reached for the door, but just before she could open it, Felix’s voice stopped her.
“Abigail.”

She turned back, expecting him to ask about breakfast, but he just stood there, silent.
“What’s up?” she asked.
After a long pause, Felix finally spoke, “How long do you think it’ll take to move on? Like, how will you know when you’re really over it? Is there a sign?”
Abigail blinked, a little taken aback. It only took her a second to realize he was bringing up their conversation from earlier.
“I don’t know. I don’t think there’s a timeline for something like that. It depends on where I am at the time, I guess.”
She figured he might be trying to prepare her for the next relationship.
Felix took a moment, then added, “I’m sure the next person you meet will be great. He’ll really love you.”
For the first time, Abigail thought Felix, usually so sharp and professional, sounded a bit out of place.
But she smiled and went along with it, keeping her tone light.
Chapter 67 The Right Start “Why are you so sure about that?”
Felix smirked, his hands casually in his pockets. “Experience. After everything you’ve been through, you’ll definitely know what you want next. So the next one? It’ll be the right start.”
For a moment, Abigail was taken aback. It was strange, but what he said made a certain kind of sense.
Before she could respond, Felix added, “You know, the people who lived in this apartment before? They all divorced, but they remarried and ended up happy. So you’ve got some good luck on your side.”
Abigail couldn’t help but laugh. “Well, I’ll take that as a good sign. Thanks for the confidence boost, boss.”
Felix gave her a slight nod, a little too proud of himself.
Just before he stepped inside, he turned to her again. “So, don’t worry. Not all men are jerks.”
Abigail was about to ask him what he meant, but by the time she turned back, he’d already gone inside and closed the door behind him.
Shaking her head, she smiled to herself before heading back to her own room.
After a hot shower, she got into bed early.
She was excited for tomorrow. Freedom was just around the

corner.

The next morning, Abigail woke up feeling fresh and excited. She made breakfast and then headed downstairs for a morning run with Felix.
Afterward, she changed into a stunning red dress and met him in the parking garage.
By the time they arrived at the courthouse, it was almost 9 AM, but Anthony was nowhere to be seen.
Meanwhile, Anthony was still wrapped up in his own thoughts, convinced that Abigail spending the night meant she’d changed her mind about the divorce. He had completely forgotten about the trial and had filled his schedule with back–to–back meetings.
Michelle showed up with breakfast, and Anthony leisurely finished his sandwich. It wasn’t until he took his last bite that he suddenly realized the importance of the day.
