Chapter 69 She’s Suited for Legal Profession
Abigail seemed to have developed a new perspective on Felix lately.
After securing her share of the property and successfully finalizing her divorce, she felt a tremendous sense of relief.
She quickly messaged Amy and Justin, planning a get–together that evening to celebrate, and both readily agreed.
Thinking of Gavin and Sunny, whom she had spent a great time with before, Abigail also asked Felix to reach out to them.
Returning to the hospital, Abigail informed Charles and Laura about her divorce.
Although it wasn’t exactly a proud thing, Abigail was genuinely happy, which eased Charles and Laura’s worry.
Seeing the easy rapport between Felix and Abigail, they believed the two were a perfect match.
“Dad, once I get the money from the divorce, I’ll take it to the finance department. I should be able to wrap up this project,” Abigail said.
Charles sighed, “I’m so sorry for dragging you down. Life has

been tough since the divorce, and now I feel like I’m holding you back.”
Abigail held Charles‘ hand in reassurance. “What are you talking about? We’re family. If there’s a problem, we tackle it together. Besides…”
She glanced at Felix, who was peeling an apple and chatting with Laura. “I’ve found a job. Felix is my boss, and the salary is enough for me to live on. Marcus isn’t living with me, and I don’t need much money. You and Mom don’t need to worry about me.”
Despite her words, Charles couldn’t help but feel distressed for her as a parent.
“Felix is a lawyer. Does your new job have anything to do with law?” he asked.
Abigail nodded enthusiastically. “Absolutely, Dad! Now that I’m divorced, I have more time to pursue my dreams. I want to invest effort into making them come true.”
Charles always sensed that Abigail seemed more vibrant after the divorce.
He had always known of her passion for law; she had chosen it over his suggestion of studying finance.
He understood her well–Abigail was the type to wholeheartedly chase after what she loved, whether it was people or her dreams.

After a while, Abigail and Laura headed to the supermarket downstairs to pick up some necessities.
Felix fed Charles the peeled apple.
The more Charles observed Felix, the more he liked him.
“Felix, Abigail mentioned you two attended the same college?” he inquired.
Felix nodded. “Yes, but I was ahead of her.”
Charles asked, “Did you know each other in college?”
Felix nodded but then shook his head. “Not really. I knew of Abigail.”
But he wasn’t sure if she knew him.
Charles nodded, not prying further. He figured that since Amy and Abigail were friends and Felix was Amy’s cousin, it made sense that Felix knew her.
“Abigail has always pursued fairness since childhood. There was a time when her mother and I took her to an open trial. The defendant’s lawyer was so eloquent that Abigail immediately became fascinated by that profession. Her mother and I have watched her love for law develop over the years,” Charles
reminisced.
Felix smiled. “Yes, I can tell she’s very well–suited for a career in law.”

“What about you, Felix? What made you want to become a lawyer?” Charles asked.
Felix paused while cutting the apple, and the smile faded from his face briefly. But just as quickly, he replied, “I simply like it. There’s no specific reason.”
Having been a businessman for many years, Charles was adept
at reading subtle cues in people’s expressions. He could tell that Felix wasn’t keen on discussing his reasons further, so he dropped the subject.
“When Abigail was in college, her mother and I were against her pursuing law. We hoped she’d study finance to eventually take over the family business. That led to quite a few disagreements between us until one day…” Charles said as he recalled a memory.
That day was during Abigail’s sophomore year when the college organized a mock trial. Abigail spoke passionately and convincingly, truly shining at that moment. It was then that Charles realized she was indeed meant for the legal field.

“I don’t know if you attended that event, but Abigail’s performance nothing short of remarkable,” he said, beaming with pride.
Felix smiled even wider, seemingly lost in his own memories.
“Yeah, she really did a good job,” he murmured softly.

Felix snapped back to reality and handed him the apple. “I mean, I believe Abigail will achieve her dream.”
Charles took the apple and nodded. “Yes, I believe that too.”
Meanwhile, Michelle called Anthony, but he was still in a meeting.

So once again, she took the liberty of heading to his office to wait for him.
When Anthony returned from the meeting and saw her sitting there, he shut all the doors and windows again.
“What’s the outcome of the trial?” he asked as he settled into his chair.
Michelle frowned, hesitating as she stood in front of his desk.
Noticing her hesitation, Anthony looked up. “What’s wrong? Just spill it.”
Taking a deep breath, Michelle finally spoke, “The second trial has concluded. The judge ruled in favor of Abigail’s divorce. petition and approved the division of property.”
After she finished, she watched closely for Anthony’s reaction.
He seemed stunned, sitting motionless in his chair. The silence in the office was deafening.

After a long while, Anthony finally spoke, his voice low, “Why was it finalized so quickly?”
Michelle feigned grievance. “Do you remember the day we were taken to the police department to make statements? Somehow, Abigail found out about that and used our statements as evidence of your infidelity, which made you the guilty party in the marriage. That’s why the court was so quick to deliver a verdict.”
As soon as she finished, Anthony suddenly stood up, smashing the glass on his desk to the floor.
The loud crash and scattered shards startled Michelle, causing her to scream and instinctively cover her ears.
In her memory, Anthony had always been a composed individual, and this was the first time she’d seen him so furious.
