Anthony wasn’t thrilled about swallowing his pride. But considering the circumstances, he didn’t have a better option. Reluctantly, he picked up his phone and dialed Abigail’s number.
At this moment, Abigail had just woken up. The effects of last night’s drinks still lingered, and her pounding headache wasn’t making things any easier.
Abigail decided to make some chicken soup. Luckily, Felix hadn’t dragged her out for their usual morning run today.
Instead, he had finished his run and lounged on the sofa. With a glass of milk in one hand and a magazine in the other, he was waiting for Abigail to finish cooking so they could have breakfast together.
The phone rang just as Abigail was stirring the soup. Seeing Anthony’s name on the screen, she hesitated for a moment. before answering. After all, it wasn’t as if they were mortal enemies. A divorce didn’t mean they had to cut all ties forever.
Anthony hadn’t expected Abigail to pick up, and for a moment, he was at a loss for words.
“Do you need something?” Abigail broke the silence, her tone calm as she placed the phone on speaker and set it on the counter. She continued stirring the soup.

Standing nearby, Ryan grew anxious watching Anthony flounder and gestured frantically for him to say something.
After what felt like an eternity, Anthony finally spoke, “I…”
Anthony’s voice sounded hoarse, and Abigail sensed that something was off.
Felix, sitting on the sofa, immediately recognized Anthony’s voice. He snapped the magazine shut and tossed it onto the coffee table.
Crossing his arms with a darkened expression, Felix leaned back and glanced at his phone, trying to appear indifferent. But in reality, he was straining his ears to catch every word of the
conversation.
Abigail finally picked up the phone and asked, “What’s wrong with you?”
Anthony gritted his teeth and figured there was no point in holding back as things couldn’t possibly get worse than this. He confessed, “Abigail, I’m sick.”
Abigail instinctively tightened her grip on the phone and pressed her lips.

“I have a stomach ulcer,” Anthony added after a pause. “I’m in the hospital right now.” His tone lacked the arrogance it once carried. Instead, it sounded subdued, and it felt oddly out of place.
From the sofa, Felix couldn’t help but roll his eyes. “So now he’s pulling the sympathy card? How pathetic,” he muttered under his breath, his disdain evident.
Abigail didn’t notice Felix’s reaction. She turned off the gas stove, paused for a moment, and then said calmly, “Anthony, we’re divorced. Your health isn’t my responsibility anymore. You should call your mom or Michelle. Either of them would make
more sense.”
Felix’s sour mood immediately lifted at her response. He couldn’t help but smirk.
Anthony wasn’t surprised by her answer, but it still stung.
Ryan quickly hit the mute button on Anthony’s phone and reminded him, “Don’t listen to her. Abigail’s soft–hearted. If you get her to come to the hospital and see you lying there, she’ll start feeling bad for you. Trust me!”
Once Ryan finished coaching Anthony, Ryan turned off the mule. button.

have your soup again. That chicken soup you used to make for me when I wasn’t feeling well. I…” He trailed off, his voice thick
with emotion.
Ryan was pleased with Anthony’s approach. He nodded and was eager to see Abigail’s reaction.
Meanwhile, Felix was seething, his lips twitching in barely contained frustration. He picked up his phone, then put it down. again. He was itching to barge into the kitchen, snatch the phone from Abigail, and give Anthony a piece of his mind.
But Felix knew he didn’t have the standing to act rashly. Logic planted him on the sofa, feigning indifference while straining his ears to catch Abigail’s reply.
Abigail was quiet for a long moment before finally responding, “You don’t love my soup. You’re just used to it. But now, you won’t be having it anymore. Maybe it’s time you got used to something else.”
Felix smiled satisfactorily at her words, his earlier fury melting into delight.
Ryan, on the other hand, was dumbfounded. He had been certain Abigail’s soft heart would have her rushing to the hospital by now. Her resolute tone caught him off guard, leaving him at a loss.
Anthony looked at Ryan for help, but Ryan could only shake his head. The situation had gone beyond anything he could salvage.

Anthony clenched his jaw, preparing to try one last time. But before he could utter another word, Abigail cut him off sharply.
“Anthony, don’t call me again for things like this,” she said. firmly, ending the call.
Abigail turned back to the stove, ladling out two bowls of soup and setting them on the table. “Felix, breakfast’s ready,” she
called.
Felix pretended to have just finished checking his phone. He placed it back on the sofa and approached the table, his eyes sparkling with a triumphant gleam.
Abigail couldn’t help but notice his sudden change in demeanor. Just this morning, he’d arrived with a stormy expression, and now, he seemed almost jubilant. She thought, “Men are really impossible to figure out.”
Anthony stared blankly at his phone, now dark and silent, unable to react. The suffocating anxiety from the previous night crept back over him, clawing at his chest.
Ryan shifted uncomfortably in the tense silence. Sighing, he took Anthony’s phone and said, “Don’t say I didn’t warn you, but from what I know about women, it looks like Abigail is serious this time.”
Anthony’s irritation deepened at Ryan’s words. He frowned and snapped, “I told you this plan wouldn’t work. Now she probably thinks I can’t live without her!”

Ryan raised his hands defensively. “Hey, don’t blame me! I was just trying to help. But honestly, I’m out of ideas. Maybe you should talk to Jason. He’s a pro at cheering women up.”
As Anthony’s face darkened further, Ryan quickly retreated to the window, lighting a cigarette to avoid being caught in the crossfire.
Anthony remained on the hospital bed, lost in his thoughts when the door burst open. Diana and Michelle rushed in with worry.
Diana practically threw herself onto Anthony. “Oh, my baby! What happened? How did you end up with a stomach ulcer? Are you in pain? Tell me!”
Seeing them, Anthony composed himself slightly. “I’m fine now. Why are you both here?”
Michelle supported Diana, explaining, “Lucy called the house this morning and said you were hospitalized. Diana and I came as soon as we could.”
Diana was frightened. She said, “I’ve told you before. Your stomach is delicate! You need to take better care of it. But no, you’re always so busy with work, skipping meals left and right. And now look where it’s landed you!”
As Diana spoke, she scanned the room and spotted Ryan. She acknowledged him with a nod before continuing, “Where’s Abigail? You’re this sick, and she didn’t even bother to come take care of you?”
