Chapter 4
“Alpha!” A guard barged into the living room, breathless. “The Luna…she collapsed!”
“What?” Damien shot up from the couch, his heart thundering in his chest. He pushed past the guard and rushed outside.
He found Felicia lying on the ground, pale and motionless. Danielle knelt by her side, feigning panic as she glanced up at him.
“Damien! She just fainted out of nowhere!” Danielle cried, clutching her stomach for dramatic effect.
Ignoring her, Damien crouched and scooped Felicia into his arms effortlessly. “Open the car,” he barked, his voice tight with urgency.
Danielle scrambled to obey, fumbling with the handle before pulling the door wide. He placed Felicia carefully in the back seat, her head lolling to the side, then slid into the driver’s seat.
Danielle climbed into the passenger seat, her teary eyes glued to him.
The drive to the hospital was silent, save for the hum of the engine and the occasional sniffle from Danielle.
When they arrived, nurses rushed to the car and whisked Felicia away on a stretcher. Damien stood frozen, his hands clenched into fists as he watched her disappear down the hallway.
“She’ll be fine,” he muttered, more to himself than anyone else.
“Damien…” Danielle’s soft voice broke through his thoughts. He turned to find her staring at him, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
“I hope I’m not the reason,” she murmured, her hand instinctively resting on her stomach. “Is this…because of me? Because of our child?”
Damien’s jaw tightened, his gaze flickering between her and the corridor Felicia had been taken down.
“She was leaving,” Danielle added, her voice trembling. “I saw her with suitcases. Is she…going because of me?”
Damien exhaled sharply and pulled her into his arms. “It’s not your fault,” he whispered, stroking her back. “She asked for the divorce, not me.”
Danielle’s shoulders shook as she began to cry uncontrollably. Quickly, Damien helped her out of the hospital to avoid the attention on them. He carried her to the car and turned around to sit in the driver’s seat.
“I never wanted to cause trouble,” she whimpered, burying her face in his chest. “I just wanted you to be happy.”
Damien tightened his grip around her, whispering reassurances. “Don’t blame yourself. You’ve done nothing wrong.”
Her tears slowed, but she didn’t pull away. Instead, she tilted her face up to meet his gaze, her lips trembling. “I just…I hate seeing you hurt.”
Without thinking, Damien leaned down, brushing his lips against hers. The kiss deepened as her hands moved up to his neck, her touch sending a jolt through his body.
“Damien…” she breathed against his lips, her tears forgotten as she pressed closer.
Reality tugged at the edge of his mind, reminding him of where they were, but Danielle’s soft touch clouded his judgment.
“Take me home,” she whispered, her fingers tracing circles on his chest. “Please…we can continue this where no one will disturb us.”
Damien hesitated, glancing back toward the hospital entrance.
“Please,” Danielle pouted, her eyes shimmering with fresh tears. “I need you, Damien.”
Her teary expression broke his resolve. He nodded, sliding back into the driver’s seat. As he started the engine, Danielle leaned in, nibbling gently at his earlobe.
A groan escaped his lips as desire overtook his senses, pushing aside any lingering thoughts of the woman he had just rushed to the hospital.
He drove off, leaving Felicia behind.
